Oh yeah they look like US.
If you're including me in your statement you're way off rj. I didn't mention our president. I said that I knew this would bring on the debate and then I stated some of my opinions on the subject. Not every republican is a bigot.

No you didn't mention our president and the statement was directed at the OP.

He posted an article from Yahoo that mentioned the following people as supportive of a discussion on gun control:
Mike Thonpson..Dem from CA..white
Jack Kingston..Rep from GA...white
Diane Feinstein..Dem from CA...white
Joe Manchin..Dem from WV.. white
Harry Reid..Dem from NV..white
Charles Grassley..Rep from IA.. white
Barack Obama...Pres... Black

The article also states not all republicans would rule out tackling gun control.

The title of the post is "Obamas first step". We have Dems and Repubs, women and men talking about the potential for new gun legislation, but the OP single out Obama. Obama has no more power than the Congress to implement such legislation. Bigotry doesn't have to be a concious act, but it is what it is. Just because no one acknowledges the elephant in the room doesn't mean it's not there. And no, not every republican is a bigot. They just have more than their share.

This is going to be my last post on this for now. If anybody wants to continue this thread feel free. I'll weigh in after these families have buried their children.

The "assault rifle" (AR-15) that this guy had was a semi-automatic...just like the two handguns he had with him. You could do just as much damage with the two handguns as with the one rifle. You can easily get 17 - 19 round capacity magazines with semi-auto handguns. Two handguns, extra magazines and a crazy person won't be stopped by any gun law short of taking away all guns. ALSO, in this story, the guy with all the guns didn't own ANY of them. So all the background checks, mental checks and gun laws wouldn't have changed a thing. You can't legislate sanity and you can't legislate bad people. It doesn't matter who the President is.

Oh and by the way, more men have died from using Viagra than all the school shootings combined. Should we ban Viagra?

Jeeeezus fucking Christ RJ....YOU'RE WHITE!!!!! You cry racism more than all the minorities on Eccie combined!

You forget that while G.W. Bush was President, everything was his fault and he's not black. Would you be complaining this much had he been? As a matter of fact, 12 years after he was first elected and you still blame him. The race card is such old fucking news already.

I first noticed the death of reasonablle debate approaching in the 1990's when the other side started interrupting and/or talking over their opponents on the Sunday morning talk shows. Since then it has become normal for shoutdowns to be considered winning arguments in certain circles.

I new as teenager that between beatings my father was always setting me up just to cut my legs out from under me, all the while telling me that he and only he and everyone else (because he said so) knew the Truth (with a capital T) and I did not and I had better never forget it.

I enlisted in the Navy, became a Cryptologic Technician, and served in Vietnam. I enlisted when Nixon was President and retired when Clinton was in office. I learned for myself to obey orders (and cover my own ass at all times). I learned that all the people claiming to be the only bearers of Truth (with a capital T) were only trying to keep me a mushroom (kept in the dark and fed shit) and did not have my best interests in mind. I also learned to research and find the real truth(s) and keep them to myself to save my sanity.

I earned two college degrees with my GI bill, started a doctorate, realized I did not like the students I would have to deal with and found other employment. I joined the computer crowd and discovered a huge new research library that included the whole world via the internet. Guess what, many sides to almost any issue exist and I developed my own philosophy of life, what I believed to be the truth and a personal code of ethics.

The Ten Commandments and the Golden Rule have gotten me through the years quite well. I am not perfect but I do try to improve myself on a daily basis. I have never tried to force anyone else to accept my beliefs by force of will or by verbal bullying. Internet Rambo appears to know of no other way.

By 2008 the previously mentioned talk shows had degenerated into a series of shoutdowns and I quit trying to learn anything from them. The rules of debate no longer existed and civil discourse was dead. My Mother and Grandmother and all Gmaws sisters taught me good manners and how to be courteous and polite, at pain of twisted ears until I buckled under, quit fighting them and learned that being polite gets you better treatment, even today.

In 2008 I also learned from cabinet secretaries Napolitano and Sibelius that I was likely to be a terrorist and join far right organizations because I was a conservative, retired military man. Because of the almost total control of the alphabet media all word definitions had changed. If I do not believe as the far left does I am a radical right winger. If I disagree with their policies, I am a RACIST!!!!! I do live in a basement with my dog and laptop, but no flags of any kind.

Back in 1969 when I first enlisted and every time I re-enlisted in the Navy I swore an oath to" uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States to the best of my abilities so help me God". I really believed in this oath to the point that I cried real tears because the feelings and meanings were so real. That Constitution has a "Bill of rights", the first 10 amendments that guarantee ALL Americans and residents certain rights. Freedom of Speech is included as part of the First amendment. Means we have a right to our own opinions (and we can say them out loud) without interference from the government. I think this is really neat. Means my thoughts are just as valuable to me as everyone else's are to them.

Meanwhile, back at the racism. I am no longer trying to be PC. I can be courteous and polite and still state my point. I am old enough, smart enough, and wise enough to know how to communicate without having to yell nasty names to make a point. I can make a reasonable argument based on facts, figures, and logic. I no longer need a daddy to tell me his Truth based on glittering generalities and "because I say so".

As a citizen of this country I am sorry that it has deteriorated to the point that I can no longer have my own opinion and state it in print without internet jRambo stomping on my stuff because he knows better and I should shut my racist mouth because he knows the Truth and because he says so.

Disagreeing with another man's po;icies and actions IS NOT RACISM. It is a requirement in this country to be able to think for one's self. How do we better ourselves if we allow Rambo to dictate our thoughts? His only argument is to tell us he knows better and I am a racist. No facts, figures, logic or discussion. Nothing to back it up. Just that I am a racist. Obama happens to be AA. I would disagree with anyone who has his beliefs, policies, attitude towards the service and use of the word compromise. I personally think he wants to be just like Hugo Chavez, fortunately he looks much better in a suit than Chavez. He also throws like a girl, Bush threw strikes. To compromise means I have to cave in. Nothing else works. Please look closely at my avatar.

The purpose of this post was to point out Obama's first overt step in gungrabbing. Check out Sotomayor and Kagan. Strong gungrabbers, Supreme Court. UN covenant or treaty or whatever on small arms, gungrabbing. Three pronged attack on our gun rights. These are ALL attacks on our Second Amendment rights even though Rambo says not so because he says so.This could be the basis for a whole lot of posts and a whole lot more "trust me because I say so" you racist pig. Come on Rambo, make a reasoned argument if you are capable..

As much as I may despise many of the in court victories of the ACLU I protected its first amendment rights because it is necessary to protect us from the government.

And it is a really sorry state we are in when the sole defense the other side has for the totality of what is going on in this country is to yell racist.

My beliefs are my own an no containers of alcohol or pets were harmed during this rant. It has been totally fueled by sausage gravy and rice supper and nicotine gum

From the time I became a Cub Scout through Explorers, and a 27 year Navy carreer I have been a sheepdog, doing my best to make a the world a safe place for children to grow up, a safe place for women and the elderly to walk the streets, leaving doors unlocked when away from home. Those days are long gone. I feel like a total failure when innocents are slaughtered and I can do nothing to prevent or stop the atrocity. I have no children or other descendants to leave a legacy so I grieve for others losses. I rage against stupidity when it costs others lives. I pray for the families and the children. The children are in a far better place now than the world we have created. Please, God, help us all.

I didn't want to get into the gun debate until I was past mourning and being pissed off about this but that might take too long.

If anyone thinks gun control will stop the new generation from mass killings at schools, theaters etc.. they are fooling themselves. They can google bomb components from household items and cause even more damage. They might not get the satisfaction of playing out one of their video game fantasies but if they really want to kill, they can. Unfortunately bad parenting, media glorification and the pussification of America will continually breed these punks.

Personally I want to clone the little mofo and have him tortured on tv and then executed. I know it wouldn't be the same but just seeing his punk ass little face screaming in terror would make me feel better.

That Guy I've gotta say I'm on your side this time. A hard core Democrat in Texas will not be well received nor will one convert anybody.
