Of course, if you have a hobby phone, not only would you need to keep it well-hidden, but you also have to know cold your cover story for having a second phone if it would be discovered. It's not that a cover story is rocket science, but you better know what it is.
The providers I use have great phone discipline. No phone calls to/from except on the day of an appointment and only then within a small window. And then I'm generally the one initiating the call within that window. Communication on non-appointment days are handled through other means. (I've never used a provider who had a telephone number as their only means of contact. That may work for some people, but it doesn't fit my circumstances.)
