No, I don't use those words a whole lot, but there are occasions where my language is much worse.

I said my reasons in the initial post. It just seems to be a mean-spirited term that is used a lot. You're a mod - isn't it a board rule that we shouldn't be overly disrespectful?

You seem to equate "fucktard" with such insults as "asshole, shithead, and fuckers." Is it true that if I called a mod a "fucking asshole" I'd get points but if I used "scumbag fucktard" I'd skate? The quotient of disrespect is the same so what's so special about fucktard?

I'm sure you've posted or sent an email to someone and had them react completely out of left field to what you said. You should know as well as anyone that trying to detect tone or someone's intention from a post is nearly impossible unless they specifically tell you so.

Sure, it happens that a message is misconstrued, but before the internet there has been over two thousand years of written communications in which a word's meaning, i.e. "connotation", was understood based upon the context in which it was used. Surely, the connotation of "fucktard" can usually be perceived by the subject matter and the words which surround it.

Mods make those judgments all the time; it's in the job description, isn't it?

We try to take care in making those type of calls due to how easy it is to take things personally and not looking at it with an objective view. If we issued points to everyone we perceived as being rude then there would be an awfully lot of banned members. We try not to restrict the flow of information and people's freedom to express themselves.
