This may seem like a strange place to ask this, but has anyone been to the MBA? I'm going to be passing by it on my way to lunch with one of my girlfriends soon, and I was thinking about stopping in, but if it's not worth it I don't want to waste our time. It's not a religious or even a spiritual pilgrimage, I just like artwork of all medias, and old stuff.

I've been to the DMA almost as many times as I've been to the movies; I thought I'd give the MBA a try since I've never been.....I need an art fix and I'm not getting the same high the DMA used to give me. Suggestions?

I have a feeling this thread is headed to the bottom of the forum like a brick...

Never been, but i've heard good things. If i remember right, they had a fire 4-5 years ago and had to rebuild.
Take a look and report back.

If its still up on display, they had an incredible "Last Supper" painting that took someone an obscene amount of time to create. Its nice to have a look around, I wouldn't say "You HAVE to go see it !"

I went a few times before the fire and it was pretty awesome. Tell me how it is if you go, I would like to see what they did with the place.

You could take your ass to the wax museum/Ripley's Believe It or Not.

MBA thing doesn't sound like it would do much for me. I make my own art anyway. If ya need an art fix u can always hit Fort Worth and do the Kimbell, Amon Carter or the Modern. Hell do all three.

I went WAY back in the day for school (I went to a private school). Even as a dumb kid it was pretty damn cool. I totally forgot about it. May have to check it out.

We did go! It was really very cool. We didn't have a lot of time so we are planning to make a return visit.

They have a beginner's icon workshop where they teach you how to make a Russian-Byzantine icon in the traditional methods, using wood gessoed boards, egg-tempera and 24k gold leaf. I'm Russian ( go figure..how appropriate ) and attended Russian Orthodox Church growing up, so this may not appeal to everyone, but I think it's great.

Everyone should go!

Fort Worth is a cultural mecca.

I used to deal with the Biblical Arts Center quite a bit before the fire (when I was working at regular employment). They held a lot of special events there and also, quite a few weddings. I haven't seen it since it's been rebuilt, though.

Although my parents used to take us there when it was being painted back ... gosh over thirty years ago, the place never had an "ah" factor for me. Not really.

It's just a large picture of the last supper. Guess you could always try to figure out if it's not John The Baptist at Jesus's left and it's really Mary Madeline, per The Da Vinci Code. Also, during their last years before the fire, the owners had a large interest in the Holocaust. Just my old knowledge of the place.

Hope you get some inspiration there. I know that some people really consider the place awe inspiring.

A beginner's icon workshop? Well, that's much different than the afternoon teas that I used to attend.
