Actually, for the majority of Americans it isn't. The majority of Americans do not take politics seriously.

They DO take streetwalkers and junkies sleeping it off on the sidewalk in front of their building seriously.

I am not saying it isn't a significant political statement--I'm just saying any business is very concerned about what happens in front of their door. THAT is as local as it gets.
