Question Question about Trojan Horses- PC Viruses

Got a Q: For the passed 2 days when I get onto Eccie there have been 4 instances where I have gotten bombarded with a Trojan Horse Virus on this site. Nothing else is open- Im not logged in anywhere else, etc just here. My virus protection is the best- always updates, etc and I love it- my PC never crashes, etc (Knock on wood) and it automatically blocks the virus but lets me know about it. So just wondering WTF? COuld someone be trying to hack the site itself or users PCs that are on the site?
Just trying to learn myself on this- not too PC literate in the techie area. LOL

Thanks for any answers...

This is probably not related to Eccie, but is something that has downloaded previously and is now making its presence known.

It would help if you would provide some information, either here on the board or send it to me privately-
- what virus protection are you using;
- what is the exact Warning that you are receiving, send a screenshot if possible;

While it is always possible the site is the trojan, I find it unlikely.

I'm with Jframe on the root cause. I'm happy to lend my expertise for assistance.

Jframe, feel free to contact me if you'd like an extra set of eyes.

Your virus software may be sensitive to the drive-by malware delivered by the side advertisements. I know that I have seen problems with those ad sites. I wouldn't be surprised if one of the 3rd party ad sites are infected.

Please note that I am not saying that there is malware on the eccie web server.

Take it from a professional. I have so many computer literate friends who click ok on virus protection warning and download things. The only thing is that warning was not from their virus protection. If there is an icon in system tray that pops a message "click here to remove virus " you got yourself a nasty virus.PM if you have questions

Hello ALL,

I wanted to let you know I have solved the issue- there really wasnt one and my PC is fine and the virus protection I have is working like a charm- I will tell you that "Thx" is right on the money- that is exactly what the cause was.

Thanks again for all the help and the PMs, etc. Merry Christmas!

There are plenty of articles about malware delivered by ads.

I just ran across this one:

Sorry didnt see these last few posts sooner.

I dont exactly know for sure....but I wrote some of the replies here down and brought them up when conferring with my PC tech and good thing because he found nothing wrong with me PC at all as my virus protection takes care of any and all threats immediately so there was nothing stored on my PC. Whenever I got a popup from my virus protection- it just stated such an such was detected and that it has blocked the program and resolved the issue for me and no action is needed. It is an alert that lets me know what happens and takes care of it right away.

So when I spoke to my guy about thx's reply- he said that was probably the main culprit and that my VP is apparently doing its job. I was just curious to know why it happens so much when logged in here.

But all is well so thanks again for the help and advice and PMs.

Get Firefox, and then get the "No Script" add on. http://noscript.net/
(they are free)

This if used correctly will prevent 50% of the crap that loads without you knowing.

...The other 50% you end up doing to yourself by opening crap that would be better left alone.

Also load and run Microsoft Security Essentials.
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/w...ity-essentials
Its free and works surprisingly well for maintenance checks and has saved me ass more than once.
