DEI is DEAD, is the Rooney Rule next?
NFL reportedly eliminates 'End Racism' slogan in back of Super Bowl end zone
Well, it appears all of societies problems have been solved, because the NFL is removing "End Racism" from each end of the field for the Super Bowl.
That's nice, all racism is now gone, so, you can stop using the term.
Or could it be they are seeing the big picture?
And awakening to the fact PEOPLE ARE SICK OF THIS SHIT!
I mean, at this rate, Tomlin is gone, as, the Rooney Rule is now obsolete.
Couple it with his poor performances the last decade, and maybe the Rooneys let him go.

Racism still exists. DEI still exists. We'll let you know the new acronym later.

If the Rooney Rule is designed to guarantee that there is minority representation in the interview pool... would you eliminate it if the job goes to the best qualified based on merit?
How do you measure merit for a head coaching job?

The same way you determine merit anywhere else, resume, record, experience, personality, etc.

So what's the problem with the Rooney Rule if its focused on expanding the interview pools?
The pool doesn't matter if the cream rises to the top, right?
And if the cream happens to be a minority, is this a problem?

It works that way with the NFL players too right?
In positions where Caucasians, Asians, Latins are underrepresented they are invited for a mandatory try out, right?
Why or why not?

This may actually be an argument for the end of Rooney rule. There are now many instances of minority “candidates” that don’t have a chance getting interviewed so the team can check a box.
I don’t mind the Rooney rule. I just don’t like Art Rooney’s passive BS with his coaching staff.

Oh you went there.
And it goes a little something like this - “DEI for me, but not for thee.”

No, you're reaching. Also, DEI is for all of us. It's why the Rooney Rule expanded to other coaching positions amd quite honestly is pretty bare minimum as 1 doesn't permit for a diverse slate and it needs to be expanded for inclusivity.
With players? That's gonna require some collective bargaining and a revamp of the entire draft system. Apples and oranges. Rooney Rule doesn't apply. Also some BFOQ's that might play in.
Now, I went there

Think about the hypocrisy.
The Rooney rule widens the net to make sure underrepresented groups get to interview.
However, the same league doesn’t widen the net to make sure underrepresented groups are given mandatory tryouts to make the team.
Spin all you want, but this is a great example why so many see DEI as a bad and unfair thing.

There's no spin. You're talking about different systems and misapplied DEI. The gotcha you chase is from a lack of imagination and a very narrow cut of options.

Spin. Spinning. Spinnarama.
Same league. Different policies. No consistency.

Different jobs. Different skills. Different hiring methods. And a union.
They won't be consistent.
They also won't pay the same for coaches and players. That's equity. And then merit within equity.
If you want equality, then make it co-ed for players, like office staff. Pay 1 wage for all jobs. That's the reductio ad absurdem
