You handled that well. Language barriers in any situation can be awkward. My visits to Lips have always been spread over months and years and the racial mix is different every time. I enjoy that but you're right, it can be hard to get the evening started that way.
Here, I usually start at the bar, spend some time on the floor near the stage, then move back to the VIP wall with the new friends I've made. Language barriers aren't as much of a problem back there.
