Sorry it happened to you but hopefully a lesson was learned. Here's a good rule to follow a honest contractor doesn't ask for upfront money. A honest provider won't ask for a deposit unless you ask them to go above and beyond to make it happen. It's too easy to scam on an illegal business transaction without many consequences.
