Default KC BBQ

I’m visiting from Texas next week. I’m staying in the Plaza area as well as 2 days in Wichita and I need a local’s suggestion for good KC BBQ. I love my Texas BBQ, but I want to try authentic KC style.

Thanks in advance.

Q39 (two locations)
Jack Stack (east edge of Plaza)
Joe's KC (just over Stateline a hop and a skip west of Plaza)

You'll see a common list of names in our suggestions as we take BBQ seriously here in KC.

Shame you're not here this week though.
Most of the shops are getting ready for the American Royal BBQ competition which is this weekend. Thus, running specials to test menus they are taking to the big show.

I know you guys take your BBQ seriously, which is why I asked. Yeah I’m sorry to miss the competition this weekend but I don’t arrive until Monday afternoon. Hopefully I’ll get a chance to eat the winner’s BBQ.

I have to agree that these would be my three personal favorites! If you're looking for something a little more classy than your average restaurant, Q39 has a great atmosphere for enjoying friends and drinks as well as great food!

One of the more underrated spots I’ve found is Burnt End bbq in OP. Basically 119th and metcalf. Best burnt ends I’ve had and they have some award winning sauces.

I gotta give some love to:

SLAPS
Johnny’s
Blind Box

Bryant’s is good for lunch. You can hardly go wrong with any of the places mentioned

I'm going to he that guy...

Q39 and Zarda suck. The only place that sucks worse is Arthur Bryants. They aren't worth visiting.

Little BBQ Joint in Independence, Jack Stack in Martin City (not the freight house district), and BB's Lawnside is where the good stuff will be found.

Q39... You guys...
