What I don't miss about WNY

Many of the places where the Puritans did not land have significantly more enlightened views on the subject (no - not snow or Marv; yes - sex and money). I live in one of those places where federal statutes do not prohibit sex for money.That leaves their federated local geo-political units to decide this question for themselves. Some choose regulations that include sales tax (naturally), registration, mandatory health examinations, close scrutiny of any evidence of human-trafficking, prohibition of street-walking or bar-girls, or indiscreet activity within buffer areas surrounding schools, churches and other common-sense socially sensitive regions. Others enact no statutes and find that free-market choices result in similar behavior to the regulated areas (no doubt, weighing the ramifications of straying too far from what has been approved elsewhere - a tribute to the carrot, not stick, of common law).

The result is that no one goes to jail for this activity. Yes, there are violations of human rights that still occur (with zero data in hand, I'd be surprised if a greater percentage of sex-workers were illegally bound than restaurant or domestic employees). The scrutiny of sex workers is probably higher than other professions (Thanks Pilgrims !), so associated human and drug trafficking seems to be lower, so abuses tend to be lower (again, I can't prove that this is factually true).

These are my observations from a land where sex for money is about as titillating as 'what's on TV tonight' - at least as a social concern - it has done nothing to inhibit the breadth or depth of interest in the topic - I dare say (without scientific observers recording data) that interest has been expansive.
