Was 4,625 last year. Wanted to beat that but had a couple things pressing. Original plan was to shoot up to Camp Wood and come thru Bandera but came home a day sooner. the Western trip was still better though. A lot more to see. The smokies don't have a lot to compare to the rockies.

Do you prefer your HD Road King over your HD Dyna for long distance riding? I don't know a whole lot about Harley Davidson bikes, the Road King looks similar to a HD Electra Glide/touring bike.

The Road King is absolutely better for long distance riding. The wide tires and air shocks make for a comfortable ride. The Dyna is faster, stronger, more fun on the sharp curves but for comfort there is no comparison. The Road King and Ultra Classic/Electra Glide are both on the same exact frame, FLH series.

I have a friend that rides/owns several Japanese bikes & a British bike, he does his own mechanic work. He prefers Japanese bikes over Harleys. He is a few years older than me, has been riding bikes since he was 14. He owns a Kawasaki GPZ 750 Turbo-rebuilt the bike several years ago. A Kawasaki Concours touring bike. A Kawasaki Enduro type of bike, don't remember what model it is, he called it a big thumper-I think it is a 500cc single piston bike. He had an old Kawasawki KZ 1100 that he was working on, he sold it to a friend. He has a newer Triumph 1000cc or 1100cc cafe racer type bike, don't remember the bike model.

Another guy I know, Fiddle Mike rides a big yellow Honda Valkyrie-1500cc 6 cylinder bike. His wife has a smaller Japanese bike, they have done some long distance touring. Fiddle Mike & his wife have a Bluegrass Band-Rosewood. Fiddle Mike plays the fiddle & mandolin & sings. His wife plays a big stand up bass.

Yes indeed, and there are some people who would rather drive a Yugo than a Cadillac, personally I will take the Cadillac. Metric bikes are good, and dependable. A Jap bike moves your body, a Harley moves your soul.

I like/prefer Harleys & Indians over Japanese bikes. My only experience riding a bike was on a friend's small Yamaha 400cc bike around residential streets by my house back in the early 1980's in Corpus Christi. I had a very good/close childhood friend that I had known since 5th grade get killed in a motorcycle accident back in 1992. The accident that killed Skip was caused by the driver of a van. I had another friend born & raised in Corpus Christi & living in San Antonio. Bruce has rode bikes since he was very young, he is a very experienced rider. Back in 2002, a 14 year old girl driving a car with no Drivers License & Insurance hit Bruce-hit & run. Bruce almost died from the accident, it took a long time for Bruce to heal up. Those two incidents has scared me away from ever getting a bike. And the drivers in Corpus Christi are some of the worst drivers in the world in my humble opinion, they don't look out for people riding bikes/respect people riding bikes.

I have several bikes. 3 Hondas and 1 Yamaha. I have been riding since I was 12 Ann got my motorcycle license when I was 15. Love to ride still but yes you need eyes in the back of your head. It's really getting bad with people talking on their phones and texting. Be careful out there but I would never stop riding.
