Default Colonoscopy

Yes, it’s hobby related. No, its not the type offered by some providers here.
I heard horror stories about people who went under for the procedure and confessed their transgressions to a SO. Any experiances? I’m scheduled for my first one in a couple of weeks.

No issues when I had mine. I was alone in recovery until I was awake and lucid.

Same here, and I've had three of them. I tried hitting on one of the nurses, I think, but I didn't get very far.

It really has a lot to do with process. Need to start the clensing, you drink a lot of fluids starting the evening before. Stay by a bathroom. Next day at clinic they will start a drip IV. They roll you in the room on a bed on your side. They put you out and you know or feel anything. You wake up in your dressing room. You may still have gas remaining in colon so you might want to hit the head so you can squeezze it out. Get dressed and then have someone drive you home and feed you. Best advice do the clense really well. Makes it a lot easier for doc and they will find all polyps.

Typically, the docs request that you have a driver both to the facility and returning to home. To facility, because you haven't eaten in a while, taken much if any meds, and, your colon has been swept and cleansed by the preparations you ingest.

So up front you might be a bit shaky and indeed dehydrated, so you are not in primo condition to drive to the test.

Unless your s.o. has permission, she won't be allowed in the sanitary prep area.

At the facility you are taken to the prep area, started with an i.v. insertion and possibly given a mild tranquilizer and some saline drip. Your anesthesiologist will explain what will happen, meaning that just before they take you into the operational area, he/she will start flowing knockout stuff into the drip.

The procedure will performed and after that you will be returned to the recovery area and s.o. is not invited into that until you have "recovered" your full senses, maybe 15 to 20 minutes. Gastro will let you know what they found. After a bit more recovery, you are wheeled out to your transportation and you go home on restricted diet and liquid for a while until your colon recovers a bit. Think 24 to 48 for recovery to process and before you start feeling much better.

Just remember that, starting 8 hours prior to the procedure, no one can accuse you of being full of you-know-what!

Thanks for the responses. I’m feeling a little better about it now. Im not too concerned about the procedure as much as keeping my trap shut. As far as hitting on the nurses, thats expected by my SO.

Relax. Been through several. My SO was there when I woke up each time and I never confessed to any of my many transgressions. Just said I was ready for pancakes.

Before my first one I told the doc to boldly go where no man had gone before. (He didn't have much of a sense of humor)

Shouldn't that read "boldly go where no man OR WOMAN had gone before."?

You'll be fine, Marsh. Just don't hit on the doctor (unless she's HOT!)

You're lucky, at least you'll be knocked out while they violate you and have no memory of it. I went through this fully awake with no drugs during an emergency room visit many years ago. I remember them wheeling in a tall, skinny cart with what looked like miles of black tubing. This was long before I liked Greek so I was quite alarmed. I just kept asking how they were going to do that to me with no drugs. They just just told me to turn on my side, relax an take a few deep breaths. I don't know what was worse, having all of that tubing inserted or the fact that it has a 'blower' on the end that opens you up so the camera can see better. Getting gas in reverse was not a lot of fun, lol. Since I was awake they told me I was welcome to watch the little monitor if I wanted to see what my insides looked like.
