Default David Harvey "The End of Capitalism"

I know a lot of political posters will hate me for this post, especially Republicans, but when you do have time, please watch and share this video. It's a little boring so you need to watch when you have time and can really listen. This is what occupy wallstreet movement is all about folks!

Deb, I'm sorry but you're embarassing yourself again. Capitalism is believed in by both democrats and republicans. Democrats think it should be controlled and conseratives (as opposed to republicans) believe it should be unfettered. Maybe you're trying to appeal to that motley crew of Occupy but the true believers of socialism (if they understand what it means) is probably in the single digits.

Even the great civil libertarian Bono praised capitalism and understands that it has freed more people than any one thing in the history of the world.

Debbie, I could give a rats ass less what some Liberal Shit Tank thinks the Occupy Movement is all about.

They are a bunch of spoiled brats who think working for a living is asking mommy and daddy for spending money.

The average occupier wants to keep forever taking a class or two in The Unbearable Whiteness of Barbie or Mathematics is Racist and Gender Biased at their great institutions of one-sided brain washing while doping and living on student loans that the Banks and the government should be forced to forgive.

Man, you guys are harsh. What Debbie is opposed to is not capitalism [I]per se[I], but rather modern day capitalism, which more closely resembles fascism, or crony capitalism. If you think it is good that multi-national corporations and international bankers control the world's economy, then you have far more trust in ruthless, power hungry people than I do. I'm not sure I'm down with answer propounded in the OP, but something needs to give.

Thanks, Debbie. Interesting post.

We don't know (and neither do you) know what Deb thinks about anything. She never says, she just puts up links that she thinks have the secrets of the universe in them.

Even the Communist China has embraced Capitalism as well as Russia.
Of course they still control the people like all good commies do.

I have come to the conclusion that only one of those claims is true.

Capitalism never works for the whole of society. It favors the rich. Sorry, but I do not agree with you. Just look at our economy today and in the past. History repeats itself. Capitalism has caused major turmoil in our country, mostly for the middle class.

I never had "rich parents", but rather middle class parents. I had to work for everything I have and work harder and harder and harder. Something has to give! Personally, I am sick and tired of being a slave to those rich bankers, and corporate CEO's, who are raking in billions and billions, while the middle class is barely keeping food in their mouth!

2013 Per Capita Income
Communist North Korea - $1,800
Capitalist South Korea - $33,189

What does this mean? It means average living standards in South Korea are 18 times greater than in North Korea's "worker's paradise".

Question for Debbie - How do you explain this huge disparity?

“The record of history is absolutely crystal clear that there is no alternative way so far discovered of improving the lot of the ordinary people that can hold a candle to the productive activities that are unleashed by free enterprise capitalism.”

You want to give a few examples and remember that capitalism has elevated more people from poverty than anything else in world history. With capitalism the middle class can hope (with hard work, inspiration, and ambition) to become rich. Capitalism can also be responsible for someone rich to become less than rich. Like you said, just look at our economy. Better yet, look at a socialist economy (which is what your recommending) and see how many people were helped at the cost of some many more. Even your last statement that capitalism has caused major turmoil.... yes, it has taken people like Bill Gates and Steve Jobs and made them billionaires and with them, thousands of people into millionaires. Those millionaires transferred their wealth to home buildiers, landscapers, car dealers, pool builders, etc. There's your turmoil.
