If the objective is to win without breaking any rules.

Does it really matter how you do it?

Just win!

To the winner, absolutely not...to the fans who pay exorbitant fees to watch the winner...yeah...it matters...

Glad I downloaded it for free, I was bored as hell after the first few rounds. As previously mentioned, Mayweather has an effective strategy no doubt about it but it's boring to watch him dance, hug, and jab all fight long scoring points. Someone earlier made a reference to Olympic Boxing and I agree, it's boring on the same level to me personally. Maybe I'm not enough of a boxing enthusiast to appreciate the artistry involved.

In the UFC Anderson Silva used to get a lot of criticism for doing the MMA equivalent often not engaging much at all during the first round but instead measuring up his opponent, dancing around, and avoiding most strikes/takedowns. At least Silva would often knock the dude out in Round 2 though He won plenty of fights by decision though just using his quickness and takedown defense combined with halfass jabs and maybe a quick takedown or two just for points.

The problem is that noone wants to see boring headliner fights but all too often that's what ends up happening. I get it, the stakes are higher and the fighters don't want to take risks. But many times the fights leading up to the main event are 10x better for the fans than the headliners are. It's a fundamental problem.

It does. Especially now.The sport of boxing needs a savior.

Mayweather will never be the champion who saved boxing but he very well might be the chump who killed it.

It's not Mayweather's fault the country has become pussified. He's just drafting on it.

The game has devolved into something unrelated to the authentic sport ... sort of like you can call two homos a "married couple" ... we are reduced to calling that something "boxing".

Mayweather fights do have one eerie similarity to really old old school: just as championship fights (with unlimited rounds) ended each round when either fighter laid on the canvas for any reason, Mayweather's fights end all their rounds whenever he decides to hug his opponent. The difference is the old fights only ended with a KO or a refusal to answer the bell.

None of this is to say Floyd lacks skills..anyone who ever took a punch would give his left nut to be able to avoid getting his brains beat out the way he can and actually envy him his defensive skills. It's just that in another time, when fans were more knowledgeable, the fucking referee would not have allowed that style and would have made him fight his way out of his hugs.

Meant for Don T. Lukbak....^^ Agreed...and when these big title fights are on the line the boxers do what they can to win by points - the days of boxers going in with a mission to knock the other guy out are gone. Although the mexicans in the lighter weight classes sure beat the fuck out of each other.....I love it.

The only way I can think of to make Mayweather fight would be to cut him some kinda way ... turn the clock to "cut time" where the fighter's desperate scared the ref's going to stop the fight. But you'd practically have to be a friggin' giraffe to head butt him. Wouldn't it have been a hoot to set the problem for LaMotta to solve when he was bangin'!

I don't think Floyd's ever been cut. Something about unmarked fighters with straight noses that just pisses me off. The feeling of unfinished business that I, of all people, need to finish off. Ha, as if!
