Ate at some place last weekend in Fort Worth called "The Original". Not bad.

Another good diner type hole in the wall is Kel's on Forrest Lane, just west of the toll road. Good CFS.

Perhaps I should give Kel's another try, since it's not far from my Dallas home.

Although I generally avoid fried food, I have heard that they offer pretty good chicken-fried steaks and similar fare for lunch and dinner.

Unfortunately, I had a rather mediocre (and that's being charitable) breakfast there a couple of years ago, and never went back.

Maybe I just hit the place at a bad time and ought to give it another try. Seems like I recall reading that they've been in business since something like 1963.

If that's indeed the case, they must be doing something right!

I am with Capt. Midnight on Kel's. It is pretty average at best.

Very good CFS can be had at the All Good Cafe in Deep E. Not really a "hole in the wall" type place since it is over populated with fedora wearing hipsters.

Sorry. Didn't mean to cause cognitive dissonance on this board. Yes, in this context, chicken fried steak. I got carried away and thought I was on chowhound.com!!!

I'd call in good, but not great, home cooking. I like it better than a Black Eyed Pea, for instance. But if you don't like fried food, it's a waste. Tried the fried squash and the chicken fried steak. They're the two best. Also smothered steak is pretty good.

If a place can't manage to serve some halfway decent grub without having to fry it, I think I'll pass!

This place really isn't a "hole in the wall" per say but Norma's dinner here in the Bishop Arts District is a REALLY great place with GREAT food.

Cesar Tacos on Davis is pretty good too.

I'm going through the list a little at a time...

Mai - not too bad. The clay pot chicken reminds me of the chicken coconut soup at another hole in the wall in baton rouge, la called rama's. best thai place ever.

Babe's chicken - was not too impressed. Just regular fried chicken. Portions were large but i guess i like my fried chicken spicy and with a bit more flavor.
