I have not read the article; I have herd it reported that he paid $750 for each of 2 years back to back. This is very curious and nearly a statistical impossibility. I challenge anyone to say that they have paid the EXACT same amount in taxes ever, let alone the same amount for 2 years in a row.
I have filed taxes for 40+ years and this has NEVER happened to me - not once!
