If anyone is interested, there is an add-on for firefox called eQuake Alert. It is pretty darn cool. Every time there is a quake somewhere it shakes your browser and shows on the bottom where it was and the magnitude. You can click on it to bring up a map on the USGS site. You can customize it to only notify you of certain locations or magnitudes and the browser shakes according to the magnitude of the quake.

If you have firefox 3.6, this is the update.

Tatiana I wouldn't worry too much about it. What I can tell you is that earthquakes have been around for as long as the planet. And honestly, the day there are no more earthquakes will be a very bad day for us all (no Earth left...). We are very lucky, the US is relatively stable geologically speaking; however, back in the 1811 & 1812 there were 3 major earthquakes near New Madrid, MO. estimated to be 8.0 or higher.

In terms of the historical record we are rather sheltered, but that doesn't change the fact that Earthquakes are a fact of life and humans have lived with far worse trough history.

The recent earthquakes don't seem to be statistically significant to me, but the Saints winning the SuperBowl does make me wonder if something strange is happening to the universe.

Its all the media and bandwagon stuff. These quakes are nothing but a small blip in the long history of the earth
