Magic has said some pretty stupid things. I rate his GM skills right up there with his talk show skills. Mitch K will make the right moves. Get some hungry players in here along side Bynum and Kobe for another run. Pau is very tradeable as is Shannon Brown. Free Agents want to come to LA, unlike other markets. They can build that way.

OHM, do you really want to go there? Are you now going to gloss over what you said? The buying of the beer comment wasn't all you said. I kept the PM smart guy. Oh and as for bets, you really have some dimensia. How could I owe anyone any money when the bet was who would win the Spurs/Lakers series in 2004? How, please? The Lakers WON. Are you still upset I wouldn't take your bet you were unwilling to make until after the Spurs won a game? A bet I would have won? Dazzle me with your Spur fan logic. Your cage is so easy to rattle. And I did come down and even had a beer with some of the logical Spurs fan back on aspd. The ones whose entire life didn't revolve around a SHMB and their basketball team.

Jason Terry pulled the same bullshit on the Lakers. While I think it is bad sportsmanship both ways the Mavs are not an innocent party here.
Okay, if you seriously think the severity of that cheap shot compares to what Artest and Odom did to a man 100 lbs. lighter than them, then I concede the Terry infraction.

I guess that makes it 3 cheap shots to 1. Well, it seems the Lakers did actually win at something!

I don't condone ANY cheapshots taken by ANY players. I think what the Lakers players did (Artest and Bynum) was absolutely unneccessary. I have not seen the Odom hit but objective people have told me it was just a hard playoff foul. As a Laker supporter I am absolutely willing to condemn my own without condition. As a Mavs fan are you willing to do the same without condition? Terry's actions, regardless of who he threw out of bounds (bigger, smaller, same size) are equally inexcusable.

Congrats and goodbye to one of the greatest coaches ever...Phil Jackson. He had a lot of talent but handled them brillantly. This series was such a boost to the Mavs confidence. They'll get some rest and enjoy seeing who will be their next victim!

Bolt here is the Odum foul...you decide

I'm with you Bolt. I think cheap shots are uncalled for but some are cheaper than others. IMO Bynum was trying to hurt Barea. The Odom foul was just a hard foul. The Terry foul another hard foul but I don't think it was intended to injure anybody. Completely different IMO. Cheap shots need to be dealt with regardless of who commits them. I'm sure both players regret their actions and will learn a lesson. I hope the league doesn't go ape shit on the suspensions. IMO a max of 10 games will get the point across. Phil and Kobe handled the loss with class.

I felt the Mavs had a good chance of beating the Lakers but never in my wildest dreams did I think it would be a sweep. Add to that the 36 point ass kicking and I am stunned.

Again wah wah wah. And who said anything about 2004? I know of 2 other people that you made bets with that will say the same thing and that is you "DON'T PAY YOUR BETS". I am sure that you probably tried to pull the same crap on some Maverick fans and hopefully they were wise as to the kind of individual that you are. So now you and your Faker buddy Lucas can sit back and try and digest that ass whooping that Dallas administred to your Quitters from LA after you had predicted the Fakers in 5. Hell I would be surprised after Magic blows up the team that they will even struggle to be a 8 seed next year.

Guess you can call me neutral in this instance, for neither team is mine. Yes, the Laker players committed cheap shots. That said, opposing coaches have seen this scenario enough times to not be free of SOME responsibility. Up by 30 and Dirk's still in the game? The Mavs are still jacking up 3's. There comes a point in games like these where you know you've got it won. Get your best players out of the game, maybe leaving one starter on the floor to keep control of things. Make an attempt to run some set plays, ones that'll kill clock. Even if you don't get a good shot, so what. 30 point leads are hard to blow. In the moment, emotions are hard to control. They're hard as a diehard fan, and probably doubly so out there as a player. Gloating, holding up the hand when you hit a 3, hanging on the rim when you get a dunk, trash talk that isn't heard beyond the floor, etc, all this while you're up big....now you're showing up an opponent. The argument about, "Well, if they don't like it, they should stop them" doesn't fly. If they COULD stop them, they would've already. Just like in boxing, in the late rounds if the opponent's getting 7, 8, 9 uncontested blows in a row...if the other guy COULD stop him, he would, right? At some point, some intervention methods needs to arise.

Coaches, particularly the winning coach, has to see the train wreck a couple miles before it happens, and take preventive measures.

Yeah, that was incredibly stupid on the part of Odom. From the replay it looks like he leaned into him to cause the contact.

All I have seen of the Bynum foul is slow motion replays which of course will always make it look more dramatic. Do I really deep down believe Bynum was trying to hurt the little guy? I guess I don't. Again, he is a kid. He deserves to be severely punished. I had an argument with someone else who was talking about criminal intent? Really? I think Bynum, being a stupid young kid, made a really dumb decision but sorry I just can't bring myself to think this "kid" wanted to end JJ's career.

OHM, name them. You can't because I don't bet anyone on the board anymore. Nice try though. Thanks for participating this year.

Rambro, shocked to say this but I am right there with you. IF the mavs did do some showboating it probably wasn't a good idea to leave their stars in there. It didn't give the Lakers an excuse and they should have showed more class in defeat but we aren't talking about rocket scientists here.

On a side note. To the left of my post is a big, fat, wet, juicy, hairy beaver shot (looks a bit like OHM come to think of it). I thought we weren't supposed to have those kinda pictures on the site haha.

After seeing the replay and all, yeah, I would say, in that one millionth of a second to make a decision, he WAS trying to hurt him. Immediately after, he probably felt some remorse.....but at the moment of truth, he was angry. They're getting humiliated, the crowd's going wild, the inevitability of defeat is heavy in the arena, and the bleeding doesn't seem to have an end. Tough situation to be in. In that split second of indecision, he made a bad one.

My guess is he'll sit the first 10 games of next year. Odom probably half of that.

Agreed. He is a kid. A big kid, but sadly still a kid. I don't doubt for a second he 100% regrets losing his cool. Aint a soul on this board who doesn't regret losing their cool a few times in their life. He is going to get punished for it and he lost the respect of some fans, including me. I hope he is also big enough to make the efforts to regain that respect.

Your point of pulling their starters doesn't fly. The bench scored 86. Dirk only score 17 (I think). Maybe what they should have done is put a couple of fans on the floor. The Lakers just got beat badly but to whine about the Mavs showing them up is kind of silly. This isn't the NFL where you can take a knee.

Notice I said IF in capital letters. I don't know if they did or didn't. I also said it didn't wasn't an excuse but to deny that it happens in the NBA, NFL or Baseball is just not being truthful about how athletes act.

The patriots got shit for passing in the 4th quarter when they could run the ball to run out the clock. Players get beaned in baseball in future games when attempting to steal late or when showing up pitchers. NBA players foul hard when you keep jacking up 3's and run down the court with your hands in their air.

Is it right? No. Do you have to be smart and aknowledge it happens? You better. Correct me if I am wrong but I believe that was Rambro's point.

Depends on what you mean by "blowing up the team." I certainly think that the Lakers have to look at shaking up their roster. Three or four things stand out. The threshold question is where do they go in their coaching search. If they stick with the triangle offense (a mistake in my opinion) then Brian Shaw is the hire. But if they look elsewhere and revamp the offense, they've got to get a point guard. Derek Fisher just won't cut it in any offense other than the triangle. Steve Nash, who is an unrestricted FA in 2012, maybe? A good target since Phoenix is going nowhere and getting there fast.

Second, you can't ignore the fact that the best center in the NBA could be on the trading block. The Lakers are one of the teams that may have the assets to get him. They would be crazy not to explore those options. Bynum is a great young center (albeit with injury issues). He's on the block if Dwight Howard is available. So is everybody else not named Kobe.

CP3? Maybe, but he won't have nearly the impact of Howard.

However, the Magic (or the Hornets) are going to want more than an expensive veteran or two for a franchise player. And that's where LA comes up short. Their draft picks are worth less than most teams and they have no young studs that are on rookie contracts. In fact, they don't really have any meaningfully talented young role players. So whoever they trade with has to take on a ton of salary.

Finally, you have the uncertainty of not knowing what the next CBA looks like. It will be a very interesting off season in LA.

Bolt, I know it happens but the statement made was about pulling the starters. If they had got into the paint and dunked a few the same shit would be said. It just was a case where Dallas couldn't miss. Personally I expect the players to play all 48 minutes. In baseball regardless of the score the players are still trying to get a hit. IMO if you are on the floor you should be trying to score. I'm not trying to be argumentative but what would you have them do. Keep in mind the bench scored 86.
