It was not a mobbed owned place, but they ran numbers and took bets out of it. I will tell you about some places that were owned and ran by guys that are deceased, you had Larocca's Italian wholesale grocery on 5th, Sebbeto's Funeral Home, Gaetanio's in the market area, Tigers records, Villa Capri pizza and cocktails, 606 club (6th and Prospect), Northeast Auto, Willie Cammisano Sr.'s garage 526 Monroe, Brooklyn Market, Mandolia Sausage Company 3rd Brooklyn, Carrola Meat company, C&C Meat company, Industrial wrecking and salvage, Nigro's western wear all locations, Roma Bakery, Be Amused vending, KC vending, Bruno's bonding company, Georgie Porgies resturant, Marty's BBQ, Grand Emporiam, Main St Coin shop, J's Pawn, Nigro's Pawn, The Downtown Hospital (owned by Dr. Nigro a made member, provided abortions and STD treatment for "family" working girls). There are a LOT of others and a LOT of business that are in current operations and I will not be able to discuss them.

I have been involved in this world from the time I was born I know a lot probably more than I should LOL. Although I spent my early "working" years in Chicago and Rockford, I know and associated with many of the old KC outfit and some of the current one's. There is no way I can provide validation for what I speak of without exposing myself to consequences, so the members of this board can make their own mind up whether they believe the information I pass along.

Default Thanks, DD and others....

Not that it matters to any of you, but I spent the first several years of my life in Gladstone near the Civella compound, but moved away only to return to a local university just before the River Quay wars, but didn't really fathom what was happening.

Anyway, I have found this thread to be very interesting and informative; it is a look at KC history through the eyes of some who actually know firsthand!

I recognize some of those businesses you just mentioned, DD.

Thanks, and keep the stories going.

DD, that's some interesting stuff. I used to go to Tiger's all the time and some of the other places. Didn't really care who owned them at the time. Hmmm...I wondered why the albums were so cheap there. A lot of history, not pleasant, but interesting anyway.

Tigers was owned by Anthony "Tiger" Cardarella (Katheryn Sheilds married his son, Phillip LOL) his primary use for the organizaion was as a fence, he also had a team of boosters who would travel around the midwest stealing records and other merchandise, so yeah that why it was so cheap. Tiger and his partner Felix Ferina were "button" men or in todays vernacular hitmen. It was because of what he knew and what he had done, when the heat came down in 1984 he was found murdered in the trunk of his caddy. There were concerns that he could flip and cause major trouble. He and Ferina were both clipped around the same time.

The Quey war was a war with two fronts you had Fred Bonodonna who was battling with the Cammisano's for territory and control of the Quey and you had the Spero brothers who could care less about the Quey but they sided with the Bonodonnas just to be against the Civellas, the Spero's were trying to wrestle control of the Teamsters from Uncle Nicky's control, altogether you have around 9 or 10, here are some of them broke down by faction.

David Bonodonna - Fred Bonadonna faction
John Amaro - Civella Faction
Gary "Parker T" Parker - Bonadonna faction
Sonny Bowman - Bonadonna faction
Nick Spero - Bonodonna/Spero faction
Mike Spero - Bonodonna/Spero faction
Joe Spero - Bonodonna/Spero faction
Carl Spero - Bonodonna/Spero faction
(both Joe and Carl occured after war offically ended but was a direct result of the war)
Fred Bonodonna - Bonodonna faction - commited suicide after entering WPP
I know I am forgetting someone, but for the most part the Bonodonna/Spero's blew things up, the Civella crews killed the Bonodonna crew. The Civellas lost 3 bars and several resturants to explosions or fire.

John Amaro lived two house away from Uncle Nick, he was killed in his garage. The Civella crew concerned with the message that was sent by this brazzen attack, decided that killing them was the only alternative. Had Fred Bonodonna not turned to the FBI and WPP, he would not have survived, the outfit had all but eliminated anyone who was willing to side or support him, his only choice was to flip or die.

When I worked for an ad specialty company we did all the Roy Williams shit when he was running for Teamsters prez. One day a big black car pulled up and these two gorillas walked through our warehouse. Once cleared, I was told it was one of the Anconas(Sam, maybe?) came in the front with a briefcase full of cash to settle the account.

It most likely was Sam Ancona and either a young Digilarmo or a young Jimmy Moretina.

Default Joe & the Market

I met Joe several times, both before his injury and after. Some guy got "loud" in his place, Joe followed him out to the parking lot; the guy hit him with his car and caused a head injury that put Joe in the hospital for a long time. He was never the same. While he was in the hospital, the place was closed and Joe forgot to renew his business license with the City of KCMO. He was trying to keep it open to keep the liquor license for that part of town, and any future development in the River Market; everyone could see that was what was going to happen. Mayor Cleaver (If I remember right) said that he could not have it renewed. Joe tried to open without a current license, and he invited a lot of the people from the River Market area over for free food. In the end, the City got what it wanted. The property was sold without the liquor license. Cleaver did make the statement that having dancing girls in the Market was like having a toilet in your living room. He wanted all of it closed.

I met Joe In the 70's because I bought property in the Market area when it was very low. Even sold properties were abandoned, or went back to the previous owners. I sold all of the properties in the Market a few years ago before Obama. Things may improve again when O is no longer in office.

They said it was Sam but I didn't know. Is that the same family as the Honda dealerships? Yeah, dunno about those two guys but they looked scary enough.
