womby the self-appointed "intellectual genius in finance" has been outed many times for his use of transference to hide HIS swishy walking behavior. And he's posted on here many times about his preference to suck a cock over banging a woman ( and NO, not a $ 150 backpage cetacean ! A woman like in your avatar. She could probably kick woomby's weak swishy walking ass. ) His continued denial of his real nature is puzzling considering how he's a "social democrat" that was "loud and proud" about the gay marriage decision.

Back on topic, I will readily admit that I am no fan of Debbie W Shultz.

Planned obsolescence? Really? Is that your knock against capitalism? You don't think the same thing happens in a socialist economy?
People want stuff CHEAP. In capitalist countries, in socialist countries, and in communist countries. And pursuit of cheapness generally leads to using inferior materials, and as little of it as possible. That leads to products that breakdown sooner.
That is the result of people putting their short term desires ahead of long-term needs. If you want longer lasting products, just pay MORE. But try selling that to the average schmuck.
And then there is this nugget of stupidity:
" Millions upon millions of people all across this country are in debt up to their goddamn eyeballs because they were convinced, through advertising, that they needed things they didn't actually need."
Really, Womby? Are you still regurgitating the same sad argument that John Kenneth Galbraith made in "The Affluent Society"? Essentially, he argued that the lumpen masses cannot withstand the mass hypnosis of advertising and they need the elite intellectuals (like himself, of course) to tell them what they really need. That is the progressive mindset in a nutshell.
I prefer Milton Friedman's response:
--------------------------------------------
" Nobel Memorial Prize-winning economist Milton Friedman in "Friedman on Galbraith, and on curing the British disease" views Galbraith as a 20th-century version of the early-19th-century Tory radical of Great Britain. He asserts that Galbraith believes in the superiority of aristocracy and in its paternalistic authority, that consumers should not be allowed choice, and that all should be determined by those with "higher minds":
"Many reformers – Galbraith is not alone in this – have as their basic objection to a free market that it frustrates them in achieving their reforms, because it enables people to have what they want, not what the reformers want. Hence every reformer has a strong tendency to be averse to a free market."
----------------------------------------------------------
Yup, that's it in a nutshell. All those damn plebes buying what they want and not what the progressives tell them they need.
Freedom just gets in your way, doesn't it, Womby?
People are in debt up to their eyeballs because it has been government housing policy for decades that everyone should own their own home, regardless of his or her ability to work and to save to buy one.
So government CONSCIOUSLY pressured the banks to lower the requirements for getting a home loan. No money down, ridiculously low proof of income, ultra low rates backed by Fanny Mae and Freddie Mac (i.e., government money).
So, too many people bought more house than they could afford. And when the bubble burst in 2008, they were all upside down on their mortgages. And that, in turn, crashed the ridiculous derivatives markets.
And advertising had nothing to do with it.
Government policy caused it.

Who allowed the derivative markets in the first place? And people buying what they want and not what they NEED is part of why we're in this mess. Thanks for proving my point.

Derivatives are not good or bad by themselves. They do need the correct dose of government regulation, and honest people playing the game in both the public and private sector. Tall order.....
Additionally, I would call advertising more a a distortion or redistribution of demand, and only a small generator of demand. It is more like someone has a propensity for fast cars, and the advertising informs them of their choices.
To put it on a more personal level, think about all the choices of beans out there.
Refried beans, black beans, cannellini beans, great northen beans, kidney beans, lima beans and of course jumping beans, etc. - quite the smorgasbord created by capitalism for Mirreyes like you.

So who decides what someone needs versus what they want? You? A government agency? Does the community take a vote? The problem many progressives have is that if some have "it" then all should be able to have "it" even if it means taking from the "wealthy" and redistributing it to the poor.
I agree that many in this country spend their money foolishly but as long as I'm not having to give them money it's none of my business. It becomes my business when they are sucking at the government tit and spend the money on drugs and other stupid shit. Of course the progressives don't think we should be able to speak up about this. You think it's none of our business.
The notion of rich and poor is so subjective. Many employees have thought I was rich because I was in a better economic position than they were. I have friends that are have several million dollars and zero debt but they certainly don't consider themselves rich. Some people in the country would look at what my employees make think they are rich. Go look at the poor in other parts of the world and I bet they would think our poor have it made. Capitalism by far offers the best opportunity to work hard and better yourself. You can take your socialist ideas and shove them up your ass. If Denmark is so fucking great why don't you shag your ass on over. Hell you can be a wetback there just as well as here.
