Why would the Soviets need to or want to lie about Hitler's death? I can't come up with a reason that Hitler being alive would benefit them. The Israelis found Mengeles and found what happened to Bormann, we found Bin Laden. I don't think that people would miss Hitler for the rest of his life.
There is, as you say, no definitive proof that Hitler killed himself but I say there is no definitive proof that he didn't.

this was aired on the history channel a 2 yrs ago I believe. I do believe that he escaped.

there is another program that either the History Channel or the Discovery channel showed and this was about Hitlers bunker which is now under a parking lot. they toured much of the bunker. what they found was very interesting. they found 2 exits where escape was possible. they concluded that its probable that Hitler could have escaped by this way.
