Jen,

You did the right thing. I think I would be really bummed, but if you talked to me and offered me calm reasons AND offered me gas money ( which I totally believe -- cuz that's just the kind of person you are ) I would just call you again.

Especially after getting the option to verify you face to face and see that you're the real deal. If he wrote you hateful e-mail, he blew a chance with you. Not a smart thing with Syracuse having so few decent providers. It's all about having fun and there is always a right place and the right time. 1 AM wasn't it that night.

I would be disappointed, but not hateful about it.

I do think you were wrong offering gas money. That was foolish. Do not meet the person when you have a bad gut feeling. If he wanted to hurt you he would have said yes to the gas money and done his thing at that point. If I get a bad feeling I call cancel and run as fast as I can. I would never offer to meet the person, give gas money, or anything. It's only happened to me once in the 3 years I have been doing this, and when I drove away there was a LE trailer in the plaza next to our meeting point on clinton in ROC. I am sorry to say this but you were to nice. It can get you killed, or worse.

You ladies are in a much more precarious situation than we are. I would trust you gut. I long for the day that I know enough to have a gut feeling about the situation. By the time I get to the parking lot of a meet Jr takes over and he has a terrible view of what is going on around him.

I wonder if along with screening each other. If meeting in a public place first would be a good idea for the first time.

Fear is a good thing. It keeps you safe. Soldiers in the army "who have no fear" can put others around them in danger by acting spontaneously and aggressively. So people should never suppress fear if it could potentially keep your life or whatever safe.

there is enough to feeling bad about in the world and everything is perception, including the enjoyment of this hobby. Therefore if the gut isn't right, than walk and live to have a better experience tomorrow, this hobby provides no absolutes....

Jen always go with your gut.

Last year I scheduled a date with someone from out of town. I called as I was pulling into the hotel lot. As I turned in I notice a group of cars (3) that were very interested in my pulling in. At the first opening I pulled a U'ee and was out of there without missing a beat at the same time I hung up the phone and never called back.

Jen,

When I work from my home town, London ON, I screen new clients to the extreme. I ask for reference, phone#, picture, established board name from London site. Some of my regular clients tease me that it took them several months to meet me, but the ones who wanted to meet me stuck it out until I was comfortable.

This "ONE TIME" I had a gentlemen produce all of the info I require and write a long polite email, so much so, that I should of honoured an appointment based on all the personal details this "poor guy" donated in trust to me. For some strange reason, I just could not do it. I refused to see him. He ended up in the news a week or so later. He was pulled over for drinking and driving heading towards T.O., but he was caught with guns in his car that that he used to open fire on a home in London.

He gave me all of my required info.
He asked for an appointment during the day.
His emails were polite and educated.

I have no idea other then "a gut" feeling why I did not book with this potential client.

Thank goodness I DID NOT!

Interesting read!

Being new to this hobby to me this is actually a good thing that you don't just take any risk. It is after all the thing that worries me the most about this whole thing. How much risk do I inherit; that you chose to take in the past; by seeing you? (I am talking about the general you of course )

Keep it safe for all of us and particularly you!

mmm ... don't think you know until you try and then you won't be able to anymore either

Life is short ... but that doesn't mean you have to throw it away!
