And it got him his 15min of fame! This will do nothing but encourage ppl to act like a 2year pitching a brat fit.
Not saying what United did was right, because it wasn't. But the passenger could have acted like a grown up.

The CEO should be fired for no other reason than making up the word Re-Accommodate. What the hell is that? That's corporate bullshit speak for kicking you off the plane.

Me too. I am looking for any large corporation to beat or have their agents beat my ass publicly.

Laura,
I will indeed lick your ass at your request, but in this instance I must disagree. The airline fumbled the ball here. There is absolutely zero chance if they simply upped it to 800 and added a domestic round trip voucher that no one takes them up. Many won't for just the money.
However, money plus RT voucher ,and that's in addition to their current ticket they get to fly on anyway without change fees, and maybe even throw in a hotel room if there are no flight's that night and you'll get your volunteer. Airlines do that ALL the time. Why it wasn't here is anyones guess. They've ridden this particular rideo too long to not understand how to stay on top the bull.
Sometimes when airlines are really in a hurry, as this one appearently was, they skip right over the bs small offers for cash and jump right to the RT vochers.
This guy just needed to get home.

In my opinion, the only reasonable way for an airline to resolve an overbooking problem is to conduct an auction.
In most cases, one or two (or more) passengers can be bought off on the cheap ( re-booking on a subsequent flight plus a voucher for a discounted or free future flight, for example.)
Although that's good enough most of the time, occasionally it won't suffice. That's where a sort of cash auction is the airline's best option. Just authorize a senior agent or flight attendant to keep upping the ante until a passenger (or requisite number of passengers) accepts the cash offer(s). By way of that method, it's pretty easy to quickly find someone to take the deal.
That would cost the carrier a tiny, tiny, tiny percentage of aggregate revenue, and in the long run would be much better than randomly selecting passengers to give the boot. Nowadays, many passengers who feel fucked over by an airline post about it on Facebook or other social media, thus saddling the carrier with enough destruction of goodwill to negate many thousands of advertising dollars.
Pretty obvious and pretty simple, really. But then one rarely hears anyone singing the praises of airline managements.

even if every morsel of the story is true, it has nothing to do with the fact that a near-Septuagenarian was dragged off an airplane, bloodied by airport thugs who feel powerful since 911.. you would think the Doctor had yelled "Allah Akbar" and whipped out a switchblade.

The gentleman arrested Thursday and tried before Pontius Pilate had a troubled background. Born (possibly out of wedlock?) in a stable, this jobless thirty-something of Middle Eastern origin had had previous run-ins with local authorities for disturbing the peace, and had become increasingly associated with the members of a fringe religious group. He spent the majority of his time in the company of sex workers and criminals.

The character assassination has no bearing whatsoever. What was done in that moment in time is what brought about the incident.
You wanna know how to avoid getting beat the fuck up? Don't resist authority when they have to resort to putting their hands on you to pry you out of your seat because asking you nicely didn't work.
On the flip side, you wanna know how to avoid losing millions of dollars over an avoidable public debacle? Handle situations like this with more grace and ingenuity.
The fact that it was handled poorly does not excuse the passenger from obeying the airline's requests or the airport authorities.

Milfy all due respect but some people just don't like being pushed around by Big Brother Bully, just " Because I told you to" is their justification.
He payed for his seat and was boarded. It wasn't his problem United didn't have their shit together. No way Im giving my seat up period.
Rosa Parks didnt want to give up her seat either. Am I comparing this to the Civil Rights movement?. Yes I actually am

I know one thing, my friends and coworkers would never let me hear the end of the comments about "screaming like a little girl" while security was dragging his ass off the plane.

I understand where themystic is coming from and for some it's worth a good ass beating to stick it to the man, I can respect that.
Just not worth it to me personally. If I'm gonna take a beating it's gonna have to be over something I care a lot more about.
Everyone knows good and well since 911 you don't fuck around at the airport.

Yeah Milfy Im just really a rebel still in so many ways. Ive never liked bullies, whether they bully you physically, financially or verbably. To me this is Big Business being a bully.
As far as the guy crying like a bitch, that was rather dramatic. I think part of that was just becauce he looked kind of feminine and had a feminine voice. ( Not you Mike Tyson). I would have been dropping every F Bomb, kicking, screaming, dragging peoples arms, legs, whatever.
I know 911 changed things. This didnt have anything to do with airport security. This was straight up Bullies
Btw Milfy, thank you for your tactful response
