The conversation was not about a trans-Pacific expansionist China (which would be a valid conversational topic, but not what this thread was about). It was about in South China Sea, which--last I looked--is in China's back yard. You might want to check a map if you think I am deluding you. I am sorry you are too brain dead to actually recall what the topic was. So no, a SCS fight is not equivalent to Pearl Harbor.
Second, technology has changed in case you hadn't noticed. It happens every once in a while. Bows replace clubs, chariots replace infantry. Long bows replace armored knights. Iron ships replace wooden ones. And since the 1940s missiles have gotten longer, and more lethal. Most current 6th grades probably know that, so since you don't you might want to refer to a more modern 6th grade history book than the one you used "back then". With your highly developed tactical brain you would have been right at home sending waves of WWI infantry charging into that new-fangled technology that mowed them down.

I don't think the Chinese could possibly plan to shut down the shipping lanes, they need to trade. I would think ships could go around it.
I can't imagine the Chinese would want to give Mr. Trump a reason to stop their exports to the US. Otherwise, I could give a fuck about their artificial islands and their ridiculous sovereignty claims, but we need to back out of the concept of doing the world's expensive dirty work for free.
We need that money to do a shitload of work here in the states.
