I just came from a reunion in New Orleans. There were 19 in my detachment. One got a fungus in his eyes and was sent home. He later took his own life. That left three six man teams. We lost two of them. Four from my team came home. One died of cancer at 35. Now there are only three. Danzler, Delano and D**** ...the three D's. Some of the support staff are invited. A couple of Helicopter pilots and a door gunner come.
God, I loved my Grandfather. He was in the trenches of WWI. He told me a war isn't over until all of the participants are gone. Not a day goes by that I don't think about it.

By your handle, I'm guessing that put you in a little before me, as, if I'm not mistaken, the Lurps were redesignated by the time I joined. And yes, I joined. By the time I got my draft notice, the Corps owned me. That group with us was force recon. Both groups definitely earned their stripes.
Off topic, sorry.

We were redesignated as Rangers.
Every member of my detachment went through Recondo school and there was always Force Recon in that school. We used to go down to Monkey Mountain and stay with those guys. That was close to the air field and we could maintain our jump status and pay. We would party with them at the NCO/EM club. The other Marines didn't know who or what we were because we weren't allowed to talk about it. We wore tiger stripe fatigues and carried Car15s. They thought all of us (Marines included) were crazy.

How are you ladies verifying proof of veteranship? Just asking. The lines will be long at Golden Coral and other restaurants offering free meals for true veterans, but you will have the pretenders.

I think it is very sweet of the ladies to offer a VD special to the vets. Thank you ladies.

I think ECCIE is the only place that I like there to be a veterans discount. Helps us old war horses afford the ladies on our fixed incomes.
Even if offered a mil discount I decline. Same thoughts and feelings from previous posts.
I was medicaly retired this Sept after 25 years. And 10 years fighting in the middle east.
My pension sucks so any discount the lovely ladies of ECCIE offer is appreciated.
I think only 4 providers responded come on ladies let's see how patriotic you all can be.

I'd probably take it if a provider offers, but I'd never go asking.

Well said Mover and I agree. I too am a vet, USMC 84-97. I do not think I have ever asked for a discount in the world. However the few times I have received one it was cool. Out.

Don't think it's "silly" at all to offer special monetary considerations to a Veteran on this one day a year. And those considerations are traditionally given by the merchant/vendor, not the other way around. There are exceptions going in the other direction, of course, but the query of the OP is perfectly in line with what will be occurring in countless businesses throughout this nation tomorrow. And, as some are all too quick to point out in other scenarios, this IS a business.
The foregoing said, it is perfectly acceptable to decline offering any such special. It's all Kool and the Gang, either way, but there's nothing silly about offering special monetary considerations to veterans.
And, no, I am not a vet. Appreciate the hell of you girls and boys who are, though, and I'll find a way to show it tomorrow if I can.

Thank you to all of the Vets. Thank you is not enough but all I can give via text.
Your service and actions are not lost with everyone. I shed tears of thanks. Having traveled the world, I appreciate what we have, regardless of the undermining the current admin is doind.
Thank you.
