The church/cult worked out a financial agreement with International House of Pancakes. For a fee they can use the name IHOP but for their school they had to add the word university to the sign.

Actually, IHOP (the pancakes) dropped the suit against IHOP (the church). Never a real explanation as to why.

I am a member of the Grandview Chamber of Commerce and this topic has been discussed many times at chamber meetings. As I said, IHOP the Church and IHOP the pancake house worked out a financial agreement where the church pays IHOP the pancake house a fee for the use of the name and agreed to make some small changes on the sign for their University which is the former Grandview Shopping Center.

I wasn't born yet, but heard alot of stories about that tornado. It left a lasting impression for those that experienced it. Two stories I heard over the years, could be folklore and myth. One, the tornado picked up a VW bug and placed it right on top of the Ruskin water tower. Two, Ruskin High School was being built at the time and when the tornado came through, it wiped the letters off except R U I N. Both plausible as we know tornadoes can do some strange things. The ripping off the letters is pretty creepy though.

Damn Woody, didn't know you ever lived in Mo, ya freaking hillbilly...lol

The Ruskin Tornado, hell yes, I had a lot of friends living in Ruskin heights, I was not old enough to have lived through it LOL. Pudges, man I about wore my wrists out on those fooseball tables, it used to sit right next to the mob owned resturant I think it was called Harry T's, used to be owned by Brancato, and where the CVS sits now used to be Shakeys Pizza ad then became Pizza Hut. Man the hours and miles driven from Grandview McDonalds to 87th st McDonalds LOL cruisin the ridge, man the good ole days, sure miss them now.

There is a good chance we know each other then. Too fucking funny...lol

P.S. The Tornado I speak of was the other fooseball place off of Hickman Mills Drive, behind the old Crest grocery store and close to the Ramada Inn talked about in this thread. The "A" is silent in this Tornado.

unless they have changed I was a member of IHOP in the old days and yes they provided a house etc but I still had to work for my money, nothing was given to me except a room in a house with others. I was their on 9/11,trying to sleep after working the graveyard shift. I also was not required to sign anything over but I was expected to be in the prayer chapel at given times no matter if I had any sleep.

Were u issued debit cards. The IHOP members now have a debit card issued to them and during a chamber of commerce meeting we were told they were issued a stipend for entertainment and food. We were also told that members were required to sign over paychecks to the church and as a condition of joining personal assets were also assigned to the church. I am not a member so I don't really know but can only go by what I have been told. This came up in chamber because some where questioning why the debit cards had the churchs name and not the individuals name.

Wow! I had no idea DD, back in 1991 I was expected to tithe what I felt led to give, nothing was issued to me but my room. Granted they were strict on what was and not allowed. No drinking, sex, anything immoral or fun basically. We were supposed to spend x amount of hours praying and if something major like 9/11 happened we were supposed to be on our faces in prayer, and required to fast.

Glad I got out when I did. That is scary
