I usually fly into and out of NO but I have people in Gonzalez and B Rouge.. If you have the time a plantation tour is very interesting if you are into history, also since I am connected with locals I have seen many interesting things off the beaten path...sharecropper cabins still standing, graves as far back as the 1600s..and even though the season is over, an LSU football game with 100,000.00 fans and the biggest tailgate party I have ever seen is something to experience...oh and of course the food....
Only disclaimer I would offer is don't go between April fools day and October...brutal.
As my buddy KK say's..."That Missouri tiger is gay...we got us a real tiger".....

I agree also, the Garden district is beautiful. It's also the original American side of Nola, Canal Street being the "middle ground" between the Quarter and the old American side. I like the old mansions lining the Garden District. John Goodman lives there year round and can see his house. Along with Sandra Bullocks' house, there is one of Anne Rices house too, a Nola native. For the history buffs, you can also see the house Jefferson Davis died in. Some may find this lame, I find it pretty cool.
Are you referring to the high humidity as why not to go there between those dates? The times I have went there is in August, and I didn't find it much different than KC. Hunidity here is ridiculous too.
