Has the hobby kept you from moving on in life?

Certainly nothing wrong with considering your hobbies when chosing a place to live. Would you move from Colorado to Florida if you loved mountain climbing? Or to the middle of the desert if sailing was your thing? As far as this hobby, you can certainly find willing women most places, but my experience is that the amount of info about those women (in the form of reviews) is lacking in other locales. Maybe I am just not looking at the right websites as I tend to stick with this one.

That's my fear. In looking into how much more expensive Cali is, especially SF, sure the company would bump my pay up to equivalent pay but due to the increase in taxes, fuel, food, housing, etc I would actually be making less. It's really a conundrum because a lot of times I feel like there's nothing for me here in Fort Worth - a lot of my old friends are married and live outside of FW and the single ones have left Texas - but at the same time something is keeping me here. I'll probably end up passing on the Cali position. Grass might just be greener where I am.

Never, ever, make a career decision based on sex, whether in the hobby or non-hobby. Doing so is a sign of weakness. I do not mean to sound harsh. Trust me, you will adapt to a new location. The only question you need to ask is whether the new position enhances your career. Best of fortune to you.

In my case, I laid it out: more headaches + more responsibilities = less net dollars. That is not a good formula.

Do what you want. If you can afford the SF market go for it. If you cannot, then do not move. By market, I am not referring to the hobby.

It is certainly conceivable that the hobby opportunities here might keep someone from leaving the Dallas area; but that very same consideration might motivate a guy to relocate to a place like Dallas (or at least to pursue a career path which enables him to finance the occasional visit). For every time I've cursed this addiction of mine, I've blessed it ten times for the new and interesting places it's led me.

San Francisco Bay area is prime hobbying grounds, much like DFW. A bit more expensive, but then again, everything out there is. Great place to live. One of the three places I've considered retiring to. Right now, it's coming in second. But it's a close second.
