Fresh out of high school and into Junior College, I wanted to work for AT&T. Since I had no college degree yet, they required me to take an aptitude test before I could have an interview.
While taking the aptitude test, in a room full of desks supporting people of all ages and ethnic back grounds. Among me and everyone else, there was a cross dresser. I was 17 years old, in Charlotte NC. This was when area codes were not needed when making a local phone call.
I got hired and periodically would remember the day I took my aptitude test next to this man dressed as a woman.
I never saw her at the water cooler...I hope she's okay.
We are all a part of an alternative lifestyle.

First, I didn't know it was antiquated and offensive. Thx.
Second, the better term for "PC" is iMac. LOL

I used to do that as a child. There is so much ambiguity in the racial makeup of my fathers background that I've never been completely sure how much of what race I am. And they didn't add the option to select multiple races to standardized tests until recently, so I always selected the "Other" box and wrote in either "Human" or "American". Needless to say, after a few years of this my teachers gave up on trying to explain why that wasn't allowed to me.
But I think the point is that there are far to many people in this world that don't fit perfectly into one traditional category or the other. So the decision to accommodate people currently in transition, and make their lives hopefully a smidgen less complicated, is a fantastic one in my opinion. Thanks for posting this Lynette.

What a stellar example of the inanity of political correctness! Creating a half-baked word (which realistically should probably be intergendered) to replace the perfectly good;
( hermaphrodite)
▸ noun: one having both male and female sexual characteristics and organs; at birth an unambiguous assignment of male or female cannot be made
▸ adjective: of animal or plant; having both male female reproductive organs
A far more egregious example of the foolishness of PC is the reaction to the usage of the word;
( niggardly)
▸ adjective: petty in giving or spending ( "A niggardly tip")
Simply because it sounds similar to, and closely resembles the spelling of another epithet, this perfectly valid word has been all but drummed from the language by the PC police.
