When I was in high school I used to do a lot of volunteer work with the Special Olympics and work with mentally handicapped kids at our school. Thus, I formed an opinion of the word "tard" very early. I find the term "tard" to be very offensive. Its a way of degrading people. Its name calling. I find name calling to be very cheap/easy and loathe name calling.

While the providers dont seems to mind the use of the term "hooker" as it is a rather colorful word for what the do, most of the time it is used by the guys who use it in a negative way which may apply to many of the gals but not to all. Most of the gals dont mind what you call them as long as they make money doing it.

When I hear the term "hooker" I instantly think of a woman who offers sex to support her drug habit, which I would take an offense to. Courtesan or being an escort is a creative art that has a hint of softness and class. Now if someone called me a hooktard I would just laugh in their face. That is is effing halarious!!!

Amen. Admittedly, I used to use the word 'retard' on occasion, like most people thinking it was a funny way to poke at people who do stupid things. Then i read a column from a Buffalo woman in the local paper. In it she mentioned how hurtful it was, as the mother of a mentally handicapped child, to be out in public and overhear someone say to a friend "you're a retard" and have to listen to them start laughing about it.
From then on i vowed to never use the term again as a means of poking fun at someone - especially in public.

So....i inspired you to start a poll, eh?
Some girls will have no problem with the term, as evidenced by the comments. I'm ok with that. But ye of the 18 lifetime bans, it doesn't surprise me that you fail to understand that some girls very well could have a problem with the term - even if the intent of its use is simply to allow the user to feel like one of the cool kids on here.

Kudos for having dedicated time to the Special Olympics and for the firm rejection to the term in question.

For now, basically 66.66% (2 third of the respondants) find Hooktard to be offensive.
I truely find it odd that some people are permissive with the term.

I have a son with autism. He is truly one of the kindest souls you'll ever meet. Whether he knows you or not, he would run into the middle of rush hour traffic to help you if you needed it. Are there any among us who would call him a 'tard?
There are some things in this world that have no need even being called into question. "Hooktard" may be tolerated by some but I have no understanding of how it could ever be interpreted as anything but disrespectful.

Oops, sorry, I was not following instructions. (I didn't see the part that ladies only should do the poll)
Myself, find any word that is disrespectful can be offensive.
