I too think the word addiction" may be a bit much. I think some people have emotional and mental issues that they try to solve or soothe by having a lot of sex and sometimes in the process, they don't see or care about some of the neagative consequences of their actions. The sex takes away some of the pain or whatever they're "running away from.

What science? What scientific method? This is testimony and opinion, not science. This doesn't mean that there is not a compulsion factor. It means that the statements, so far, about sex addiction have been only statements. Anyone can make a statement of opinions, or feelings. The statement may, or may not be true.

Just because we don't have a scientific study does not mean that we are without knowledge. Just look at all of us here, we enjoy sex; but enjoyment does not equal addiction.

Sex brings out the natural pleasure hormones.

Spend too much time with those beautiful hormones and it does get "addicting"

Case in point - I came less than 30 minutes ago, and only once. Already I can feel the let down. I'm actually wondering if I can get someone else over here before I have civvie drinks at 530. I'm also ovulating right now which increases that "omg must fuck" feeling.

I am definitely compulsive but I'm not a junkie. But I have seen behavior that I consider to be the behavior of an addict. I would recommend either the book or the movie Choke. While it's portrayal of "sex addicts" might be over the top, I have known people with zero discrimination when it comes to sex partners and it is a little scary.
