That "backstory" intentionally fails to mention that transient workers are required to have temp work visas, thus, those with work visas are "legal" (unless they violate the rules of the work visas of course). No plantation owner will allow undocumented folks on property due to immigration rules, insurance rules and potential govt fines for having undocumented folks.

I am still frequently entertained in the real world when even leo does not understand work or student visas and always get upset when a perfectly legal person (with work/student visas) does not have a green card. For me it used to be hotel staff, nowadays it's construction labor. Are they angling for a green card later? Of course, but in the meantime, a good visa, is a good visa. I have actually had immigration thrown out of hotels due to that bullshit (of course I knew who to call).

I have noticed that fewer Hispanic nannies are at the local park, with the rich folks’ kids. Some of them might simply be opting to stay indoors, but, it does seem logical that some of them might opt for more-anonymous ways to earn money. While not that many of these nannies are all that attractive, I am on a retiree’s budget, so would not mind finding a Twenty-Twenties equivalent of I-10 Melissa…

Yesterday I went to a large retail establishment with many kiosks and boutiques rented by primarily Hispanic folks.

My Asian friend whose business I frequent there said all of the Hispanic folks are worried about deportation (those potentially affected) and business is a little more subdued.

All the work visa folks I know, I tell to carry a copy of their work visa, my business card, and an Attorney business card. A few have been stopped, they produce those, and released in a minute. I still call in and bitch about unreasonable interruption of business.
