The MAGA cult here on the board want to know why the DA didn't just send these assholes to trial if "they had them dead to rights on the charges?"

They are hiding and obfuscating the plea's as being benign and without value because they think the charges of RICO statutes are not well understood by them. If you think that a plea deal to a lesser crime, makes the actual crime less, in order to be given a plea deal, you are mistaken. Once they plea, and say they will provide support in any other way to the DA office, they are compelled to do so, or they deal will go away.

Our conservative friends are just trying to not see the big picture, vs. the small fish fry we are seeing happening. Mind you, pleaing to a felony is not a little thing, nor is the misdemeanors that Powell pled to. These are more of Save your Ass pleas, so they can continue on making a living, as surely the world will continue to revolve long after the orange menace is done in both court and in this world. From a lawyer’s perspective, Ms Powell would have been crazy not to take the prosecution’s deal. The ramifications to her are less than if she had stolen a car or something of that nature, and indicate the prosecution felt they had no chance of a guilty verdict. She’s responsible for a small fine, magnitudes less than legal costs to fight the charges, and testifying honestly which is already a requirement under penalty of law. This is a slap on the wrist with a wet noodle.

I’m certainly in agreement with her legal representation, especially given that there will be no change in public perception. Those who think she did nothing wrong will still feel that way, as will those who believe she committed a crime.
