Who said anything about caller ID? But, that question being asked, what is the difference between the caller ID, that your phone sees, and the ID of the phone that the phone company has? A lot! If you provide any information to the phone company it is recorded and tied to that phone. For example, if you buy the phone for cash and at a latter day add minutes to the phone with your credit card, they have all of your credit card information instantly and know who you are. If you use a different credit card with a different ID on that phone at a latter time, they know instantly that the cards are issued to different parties and will quiz you about why their is a difference and now they have both cards and both sets of information tied to that phone.

If the phone company has the information, LE can get it. Right now there is a case being litigated concerning police examining the cell phone of people at all car stops. The device can get all of the information off of a phone, even that information that was erased. They can do it while you are stopped. This is not yet in KC, but several cities have it. The answer is to turn your phone off and remove the battery. Even a device that is off, is still hot.

Always pay cash for your additional minutes. Use a fake address when you pay cash, they do not accept PO Box addresses. Be ready to answer the quiz when you buy additional minutes for cash.

Good points made. I always pay cash for additional minutes. No need to provide an address. You can buy them at Quik Trip and enter the code on the phone. Do not add minutes from the phone company's website. Seriously folks, it's not that difficult and could potentially save you a LOT of trouble.

How to Use a Burnphone Wisely

- do not register/create an account with any pay-as-you go phones.
- always pay cash for more minutes.
- only turn on the burn phone when needed.
- handle as much of your communication thru an on-line web-browser.
- turn on your phone approx 1-2 hours before appt.
- turn off your phone approx 1-2 hours after appt.
- do not store anything in contacts.
- delete your call history often.
- keep battery separate from the phone during down time.
- if you find an ATF, set up a Safe word for texting/emailing. Find a simple word you will both remember.

Here's a tip, go to walmart and get a pay as you go phone for such things. They are 30 bucks, some of them are 30 bucks with 200 minutes included. Pay cash. They are untraceable. I think LE can ping the general area you are in, but can't get a true location. Use the phone for a couple of months. Destroy the SIM card, throw the phone away. Buy a new one.

If I'm wrong about this, please inform me.

I know what not to do... yet I still do it. I've even been thinking of getting a laptop to visit sites like this and BP.

How does doing this avoid leaving tracks? You still have metadata left behind on the device.

They don't but you may get a call from them. They can find call records and see when and if you called or talked and if something bad happened may question you about it as to why you talked to this person on such and such date. If they bust the provider and get the phone they may call to try and set you up. It's always very possible that hey I ran into this person out at a club, that was the number they gave me and they told me to call them sometime.
