So you are arguing that Lincoln would have thrown the ex-slaves under the bus as Andrew Johnson had done?

Look who's trying to read and think at the same time....isn't Nazi Andy cute (not)?
Maybe you haven't read history or seen the movie. Lincoln was trying to end slavery before the war ended and (obviously) before his death. You went to some public school didn't you? Now Lincoln did say that he would keep the Africans in slavery if he could keep the country together but the country was already asunder so that no longer applied.
As for Sherman, he did invent what we call total war. He believed that in a democracy that the civilians who allowed a goverment to fight a war on their behalf were just as guilty as the leaders of that democracy. Another thing that Sherman did in his march to the sea was to avoid combat with the Confederate Army. His force was so large and dominant that no one could stand up to him. Skirmishes were supposed to draw units away from the main force for destruction but Sherman made sure that even the junior commanders understood that no one would leave the main body. The Confederate Army should by and allowed Sherman to continue. Sherman also avoided civilians casualites. Their property may have been forfeit but the southerns were allowed to keep their lives. Sherman also ended up with a train of freed slaves stretching back over a mile long. Sherman did arrive at Savannah and was continuing on to the north.

At first you were in agreement with Little Hans that Sherman is an "arsonist," therefore a war criminal; but now you are implying he is a competent soldier with some decent degree of humanity. Your last overnight drunken orgy must have been extremely satisfying....

Bent rails were "Sherman Neck ties".

Total war it was called.
The plan was to cut the South into three pieces. First the Union took control of the Mississippi River. Then the South was further cut by Sherman's march to the Sea.
After Savannah then Sherman's troops marched onto Columbia (I think). The local residents gave Union troops whiskey - BIG MISTAKE The city center of Columbia was burned down as a result of drunken behavior.
Much of Columbia burned to the ground in a fire that has engendered controversy ever since: some say it started when the Confederates set fire to cotton bales in the city, others say that drunken Union soldiers were fanning the flames of vengeance, while a few witnesses claimed that some of the fires were by accident.[5] James W. Loewen researched the topic for his book, Lies Across America, and found that most likely, the cotton bale fires spread and caused most of the destruction. He did find that there were some fires started by Union soldiers, but the effects of these were minimal.
Another Union general (Grant I think) was burning the heart out of Virginia and that is when Robert E Lee gave up.
|
Lee gave up after Sheridan beat him to the rations at Appomattox Station. Lee sent Gordon to break through Sheridan's dismounted cavalry to seize the rations. Gordon broke through only to find 30,000 infantry had arrived the day before. No one was burning Virginia.

I wish there had been an orgy but drunken? You'll have to stop paying attention to idiots. I don't drink and never have drank. Nor have I ever posted under Nazi avatars. However, I did embarass a local grocery store that was posting black cut outs of American soldiers for Veterans Day. I went around and pointed out to them where and what they were really pictures of including some Nazis, Commies, and Japs (can we still say Japs as a historical reference?)
Sherman was what he was. I tried a few years ago to put General Ewing on trial for war crimes committed during the Civil War. I thought it would bring together the poli-sci crowd, the history crowd, and the legal crowd on campus. Sherman didn't target civilians, he targeted their property that was being used to support the war effort. You do remember how the US Air Force bombed Dresden (where you there?) into oblivion? Maybe the Tokyo fire bombing. That way you can add a racial component to the equation.

In 1864 -- while Sherman was marching on Atlanta -- General Grant promised the Army Chief of Staff that he intended for General Sheridan “to eat out Virginia clear and clean . . . so that crows flying over it for the balance of the season will have to carry their provender with them.”

Flames consume Shenandoah Valley [Virginia] in Union campaign

Both the British (700+ bombers) and the US (500+ bombers) bombed Dresden.
And you haven't even bothered to find out why. There are numerous versions of the reasons.
The jdouche version with only the US as a player exists only in your mostly empty head.
Tokyo bombings were prior to the nukes against an enemy that was fighting to the death
Hirohito encouraged civilians on Saipan to commit suicide rather than surrender.
And the idea that you are active in the college scene would be scary if there was the most infinitesimal chance it was true.
Thank God you're full of shit.

So you've confirmed you're a moron who can't read.
Where does your stupidity and lack of self control end?
Strange as it is for me to say it, the Tranny Fuckee's OP was pretty funny. Wish I had thought of it.

Never heard of Carthage, did you?
Or ever hear of Vlad the Impaler?
In 1462, a massive Ottoman army led by Sultan Mehmed II marched into Wallachia. Vlad the Impaler retreated to Transylvania. During his departure, he conducted scorched earth tactics to ward off Sultan Mehmed II's approach. When the Ottoman forces approached Tirgoviste, they encountered over 20,000 people impaled by the forces of Vlad the Impaler, creating a "forest" of dead or dying bodies on stakes. This atrocious, gut-wrenching sight caused Sultan Mehmed II to withdraw from battle and instead send Radu, Vlad's brother, to fight Vlad the Impaler.
So once again you're proven to be ignorant of subject matter it took 30 seconds to research on the web.
"War is hell", douche-bag.
"War is hell." quote by Gen. Sherman
And for the rest of the confederate loving assholes;
A letter from Sherman to the city of Atlanta
You cannot qualify war in harsher terms than I will. War is cruelty, and you cannot refine it; and those who brought war into our country deserve all the curses and maledictions a people can pour out. I know I had no hand in making this war, and I know I will make more sacrifices today than any of you to secure peace. But you cannot have peace and a division of our country. If the United States submits to a division now, it will not stop, but will go on until we reap the fate of Mexico, which is eternal war. The United States does and must assert its authority, wherever it once had power; for, if it relaxes one bit to pressure, it is gone, and I believe that such is the national feeling. - You might as well appeal against the thunder-storm as against these terrible hardships of war. They are inevitable, and the only way the people of Atlanta can hope once more to live in peace and quiet at home, is to stop the war, which can only be done by admitting that it began in error and is perpetuated in pride.
- We do want and will have a just obedience to the laws of the United States. That we will have, and, if it involves the destruction of your improvements, we cannot help it.
- You have heretofore read public sentiment in your newspapers, that live by falsehood and excitement; and the quicker you seek for truth in other quarters, the better. I repeat then that, by the original compact of government, the United States had certain rights in Georgia, which have never been relinquished and never will be; that the South began the war by seizing forts, arsenals, mints, custom-houses, etc., etc., long before Mr. Lincoln was installed, and before the South had one jot or tittle of provocation. I myself have seen in Missouri, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Mississippi, hundreds and thousands of women and children fleeing from your armies and desperadoes, hungry and with bleeding feet. In Memphis, Vicksburg, and Mississippi, we fed thousands and thousands of the families of rebel soldiers left on our hands, and whom we could not see starve. Now that war comes to you, you feel very different. You deprecate its horrors, but did not feel them when you sent car-loads of soldiers and ammunition, and moulded shells and shot, to carry war into Kentucky and Tennessee, to desolate the homes of hundreds and thousands of good people who only asked to live in peace at their old homes, and under the Government of their inheritance. But these comparisons are idle. I want peace, and believe it can only be reached through union and war, and I will ever conduct war with a view to perfect an early success.
