As we know, there's been a parade of storied teams throughout NFL history that have had plenty of the "right intangibles"; particularly that spirited component: "heart". The difference, however, between this year's Bronco team (and the one that got slammed in SB 48) is glaringly obvious:

TALENT won that game; pure and simple (along with a smart game plan, of course). That said, the MVP trophy IMO could just as easily gone to one, GM John Elway.

After being taken out to the woodshed by the Seahawks a short 24 months ago, Elway's mission was crystal clear: Acquire as much defensive talent as possible and take pressure off Manning and his offense. Whether by design (or luck), appointing Wade Phillips as the team's DC was the cherry on top of this masterful plan.

Ware and Miller as bookend mad dog, hair-on-fire edge rushers were potent all season long. Once the post-season kicked in, they made (along with that stifling secondary) All Pro QB's Roethlisberger, Brady and Newton miserable on a convincingly thorough championship run.

Heart is wonderful. But talent is usually the Trump Card when it comes to the nut cutting (ie: see the current Golden State Warriors as another example).

That said, note to Cowboys GM for Life, Jerry Jones:

Using the current Broncos as a shining example of "what to do", perhaps the criticism you've received these past 20+ years actually has merit to it. The pundits have preached from Day One that you step down and appoint an actual living, breathing "football man" as the team's GM. Let's be real...it's been an obvious need ever since you fired your first one, the architect of 3 Super Bowl Championships.....the great Jimmy Johnson.

In a fraction of the time you've owned the Cowboys, a football man for most of his life....GM John Elway (who has as lengthy and decorated a football pedigree you'll want to find)....put together an NFL team the "right way". Shrewd drafting in tandem with spot on free agent signings built a solid squad capable of winning it all. And it didn't take two-plus decades to achieve it either.....

And he didn't do it by pursuing speculative (if not questionable) characters like Joey Galloway....Roy Williams (ie: trade with Detroit)...Quincy Cater....Terrell Owens...Pacman Jones....Rolando McClain....Greg Hardy....the list goes on and on and on....

The facts are damning......and JJ should be embarrassed and ashamed after seeing what Elway did to pull this off.

It wasn't by using hocus pocus....it wasn't smoke and mirrors or a bunch of double-talking the media and fans with his Hillbilly backporch wit. It was simply by staying true to a long standing blueprint of principles that will never change. No matter how rule changes the NFL makes and continues to make.....Defense wins Championships.

Damn good thoughts. Elway continues to be an exceptional leader. He's grown into somewhat of a father figure from a golden boy. I can totally see him being Governor of Colorado.

He would win in a landslide right now, especially if he promised free Taco Bell munchies meals for all.

He would win by a landslide any year. Colorado absolutely adores Elway.

I think you took my "won with heart" comment a little too literally. Of course they won with talent. It's the NFL. Defense definitely wins Championships. I have a son who is a 285lb defensive lineman in college. I know defense

My point was that yes, Denver had a lot to prove since losing that Super Bowl 24mths ago. Their reputation as a "choking team" and "Peyton is too old" was on the line. That day they lost to the Seahawks they weren't playing with heart. Their head wasn't in the game. Their mentality was off and they were annihilated.

Come Super Bowl 50...
They need a Super Bowl redemption from 2014.
Peyton is now even older and needing to retire and go out like he deserved to.
Pat Bowlen is suffering from severe/last stages of Alzheimers and wont be around much longer. (even though he is already gone mentally, it's the principal and the Bowlen family is royalty in the eyes of Denverites as he should be)
In addition they were picked to lose by almost everybody. Everywhere. In the whole world. They were the underdogs. Didn't have a chance in hell to beat Big Bad Cam.

They were calm before the storm. No rap videos or new dances. No flossing. Not much shit talking. They were cool, quiet and focused. There was a lot more at stake than just the game itself. I know, I know...winning is everything and it's the damn Super Bowl you are saying, but there was more on the line than that . If you are a true Denver fan, (which I am) you knew that. And I am, so I did.

So when I say the game was won with heart, I mean just that. Talent and heart go hand in hand.

Wow some one who finally gets it!!! After two weeks no need for Sunday, fing spare college football is over and too much hype unit. The awards thing would dominate Friday night.

For that simple reason, the NFL needs to wake up, smell the coffee and do all football fans a Huge Favor: move Super Bowl Sunday to SATURDAY.

It'd be awesome. Hit a Super Bowl party....hit your fave SC afterwards....then go tap your ATF afterwards. And you'd have all day Sunday to recoop from the fun......

If Goodell did this it'd just about make up for all the stoopid stuff he's done and said the past couple of years.....
