We all know what smoking can do to you yet people still smoke heavily despite all sorts of warnings and attempts to curtail smoking. The most effective technique for fighting drug, alcohol, and smoking abuse has been through classroom instruction in the schools. Yes, I totally agree with you in teaching about drug addiction in school. The thing about using real people with real stories is because the only person an addict or alcoholic will listen to is another addict or alcoholic. These real people don't gloss over anything. They are usually in recovery or recovered themselves. And if kids could listen to these stories instead of some glossed over edition of addiction being read out of a book by a teacher, that would be awesome. But then you get into what can be said and what can't be said and the stalemate seems to continue for years.
I really don't like lumping together "liberals" into one category. Do you like it when I say Conservatives don't give a damn about providing health care to the poor? Obamacare certainly has its faults but Trumpcare was FAR worse. Luckily members of the Senate recognized that.
You have a point. No,I do not like it when groups of people are lumped together. I'm an independent - but there is no party as such - so it's the Republicans. But not all Republicans are conservatives. Just as not all Democrats are liberals.
Unfortunately , in my opinion, is taking us backwards. Trade wars. Hated by other countries. Tax reform that gave millions to corporations and the rich and left crumbs for the middle class. Yes I cry because people are blind to FACTS. I keep asking you the positives that have happened in 18 months under Trump and the best you can come up with is he MIGHT be helping the military and there is a commercial coming for opioid prevention

Here I disagree with you. OK, here you go.
* Appointed Supreme Court Justice Neil Gorsuch and more than 75 other constitutionally sound federal judges, 30 of which are serving.
• Issued an order killing two federal regulations for every new one. In actuality, 16 were cut for every new one in his first year, saving billions.
• Withdrew the U.S. from the Paris Climate Agreement, ending the threat of U.S. governance by international bureaucrats.
• Presided over an economic and stock market boom, lowered unemployment and brought manufacturing jobs back to America from overseas.
• Imposed sanctions on Venezuela’s socialist dictatorship and revising Mr. Obama’s deals with communist Cuba.
• Recognized Jerusalem as Israel’s capital and repairing damage that Mr. Obama did to the U.S.-Israel relationship.
• Rebuilt the nation’s military, destroyed ISIS and faced down North Korea’s “Rocket Man.”
Let me know if you want more.

For some strange reason you believe that just because Trump did something that it was done for the good of the people:
* Appointed Supreme Court Justice Neil Gorsuch and more than 75 other constitutionally sound federal judges, 30 of which are serving.
A Supreme Court justice was going to be named. Was Gorsuch the best choice for our country? I don't know. This is NOT an accomplishment, nor is the naming of 75 other federal judges. It was part of Trump's job that anyone could have done.
• Issued an order killing two federal regulations for every new one. In actuality, 16 were cut for every new one in his first year, saving billions.
Again, it is a matter of opinion whether or not the federal regulations enacted/killed were good or bad for our country.
• Withdrew the U.S. from the Paris Climate Agreement, ending the threat of U.S. governance by international bureaucrats.
Terrible decision in the eyes of most Americans. Myself included.
• Presided over an economic and stock market boom, lowered unemployment and brought manufacturing jobs back to America from overseas.
Trump came into office with the economy in excellent shape due in part to Obama. That economic success has continued under Trump. The stock market BOOM is over. In 6 months this year the DJIA is DOWN. And have you read predictions on how many jobs will be lost once Trump's tariff's go through? Estimates are in the hundreds of thousands. And very few jobs have returned to the U.S. from overseas.
• Imposed sanction on Venezuela’s socialist dictatorship and revising Mr. Obama’s deals with communist Cuba.
Not a big deal to most people in this country. I personally would like to see relations with Cuba improved and I doubt Trump will do that.
• Recognized Jerusalem as Israel’s capital and repairing damage that Mr. Obama did to the U.S.-Israel relationship.
Absolutely terrible decision in my opinion and in the opinion of most Americans, including many in Trump's cabinet.
• Rebuilt the nation’s military, destroyed ISIS and faced down North Korea’s “Rocket Man.”
Do you really think ISIS is dead? If you do I have a bridge in Brooklyn I want to sell you. I do agree that Trump has focused more on the military than past presidents. As far as "faced down North Korea's "Rocket Man" it is yet to be seen how effective Trump's meeting with him will be. So far, nothing
I do appreciate your attempt to highlight Trump's "accomplishments". However, as you can see, most of your points are debatable as to whether or not they are positive or negative.

After reading the article, Lott makes some valid points but nothing overwhelming. I have already stated that the media focuses on Trump more than any other president in my lifetime, whether they were Republican or Democrat. But as I stated he brings most of it on himself with his inconsistencies, his lies, his mis-statements of the truth, and his incivility towards those that oppose him.

I withdraw my question seeing that no answer is seriously being considered from you and is used to contribute to your scripted agenda, whatever that is.

Well Precious, I don't know if your trying to insult me here but I have to tell you - I have no clue who you are talking about. I don't need a pussy posse. I'm semi retired and I see who I want and when I want. I enjoy talking politics. Actually, I'm on Eccie just for the political discussions. Now Precious,if you want enlightenment sugar then go to the National Political section- they will enlighten you real quick. But I warn you - it's not for the weak. Good luck!

It's over for the dems. They don't have a platform to win except to get rid of ICE and Trump. They're in LaLa land.

One prediction gives Democrats a 65% chance to gain control of the House in 2018.
Unfortunately you do not understand the simple realities of the political scene. You learned nothing from the Democrats winning the Senate seat in Alabama. You learned nothing from Democrats winning the House seat in western Pennsylvania. You learned nothing from the Democrats winning the governor's race in Virginia by the largest margin for a Democrat since 1985. All 3 candidates were backed heavily by Trump, and the candidate who lost in the primary in Alabama was backed heavily by Trump.
In 2016 just as many voters voted AGAINST Clinton as voted FOR Trump. It is unlikely Trump will face a candidate in 2020 that evoked such animosity from voters.
But let's review the 2016 vote. Trump won Michigan 3 tenths of 1 percent. Trump won Pennsylvania by 1.2%. Trump won Wisconsin by 1.0%. So if around 1 out of every 100 voters who voted in 2016 moves his/her vote from Trump to the Democratic candidate, Trump loses those states which won the election for him in 2016. Add to that the FACT that in the elections since 2016 (Alabama, Penn., and Virginia) Democratic voters are coming out in droves to support their candidates, it does not look good for Republicans in 2018.
Trump's popularity according to polls, although improving somewhat, still is terrible. Democrats don't need a platform as long as Trump continues to be Trump. In 4 months we'll see how Americans truly feel about Trump's successes/failures while in office.

Do you really think that getting rid of ICE is going to get voters in Alabama to vote Dem? They are moving all the way to the left and leaving blue collar dems behind. But we will have to wait and see. I predict that the socialist agenda that the dems are putting forth ain't gonna go over well.

There are approximately 72 million registered Democrats in this country. To assume that Cynthia Nixon speaks for all of them is simply ignorant thinking. I think that what happened at our borders with about 2,000 migrant children being separated from their parents is a black eye for Trump. Even Ivanka and Melania lashed out against him over his stance.
I want SANE immigration policy. If Trump has his way the only people emigrating to this country will be white, English-speaking, highly educated, with high-level job skills. I know nothing about your ancestors, but none of mine would have been allowed into this country under Trump's desired immigration policies.
And if you think all immigration policies followed by Republicans are excellent, read about Joe Arpaio in Arizona, who is now running for the U.S. Senate. His actions as sheriff were reprehensible.
Leaving blue collar Dems behind? Do you any idea of the negative impact of the tariffs being proposed, mostly on blue-collar workers and farmers?
So let's have your prediction on the 2018 elections. I say that Democrats gain big in the House with a better than 50-50 chance of taking control but possibly lose a seat or 2 in the Senate.
what you say?

Oh it's not just Cynthia Nixon. Elizabeth Warren - that screecher is going to be the new face of the dem party. Or better yet -Alexandra Cortez - the new progressive face of the dem party. Both are for removing ICE. My take is Republicans maintain control of the house. I don't know if you have family or friends that live on or near the border but the cartel and smugglers are not welcomed there. Also, it's a slap in the face to those immigrants that came here legally. That's how some of my friends see this that live in border towns.
Btw, my mom is German - she came here legally. Learned English and passed her citizenship test. It wasn't difficult.

why are sheep a problem? i'd ask my relatives who fled the Ukraine and Eastern Europe back in the days of that other "tells it like HE sees it" guy Hitler but many of them didn't survive that era.
no, i am not saying Trump IS a Nazi, i'm just saying he's envious of megalomaniacs, dictators, and fascists. he likes a loyal audience. i guess that's you.

If you want to see a bunch of sheeple just look at the party of the left. Thereis one specific voting block that the Dems don't even go after anymore and why should they when they have a 95+ % lock. The Dems don't have any platform except hate President Trump. If he walked on water the headlines would read Trump can't swim.

While Warren is a power in the Democratic party, Ocasio-Cortez is not, although I'm sure she is favored to win the House election in her district. As I said, the majority of the people in this country, whether Republican or Democrat, want SANE immigration policies. You neglected to give us your opinion on Joe Arapaio in your response. He is much worse than Warren or Ocasio-Cortez in my opinion. Warren and Ocasio-Cortez have expressed opinions that you don't like. Arapaio violated the constitutional rights of people and was arrested.
The cartels and smugglers are not the same as those that are seeking asylum in the U.S. No one wants them in this country. Trump loves to associate ALL immigrants coming over the Mexican border as members of MS-13. It appeals to his constituency, just like it did during the campaign when he referred to Mexican immigrants as murderers and rapists.
BTW, do you think your mom would be welcomed to the U.S. under Trump's immigration policies? Did she have more than a HS education? Did she have a special job skill that would make her attractive to major companies? Could she speak English at the time she entered the country? My grandparents were my ancestors that entered the U.S. for the first time. They had none of those skills that Trump wants immigrants to have.

For you and Ellen. Here is the Democratic party's 2016 platform. I'm sure that there would be some minor tweaks to it at this point in time but I would bet most of the planks would still be there.
