CLOSING OF AN ADULT ICON IN KC

I was driving down Independence Ave this morning and saw a sign on Ray's over 21 that they were closing. Rays is one of the oldest adult establishments in KC. I expect that the extensive renovations required under the new law regarding video video booths which are huge revenue streams killed this establishment and will soon snuff the life out of many others.

People will probably joke about it, but any business closing is not good news. Ah, the good old days. I still think about the location on Main street. Anyone remember the Glover plan? Yes, Home Depot and Costco generate more tax revenue and that is what it's all about these days. I am old school perv and miss the old porn places,
I'll admit it. Its sad how the independent businesses are being squeezed out of business for various reasons.

There are several, naughty but nice, my store, the strand, however I am the only location that does not have the booths, the stores with the booths generate mucho money from the booths. Erotic City was making around 1.5 million anually. But I will tell you that the booths are not used so much to watch the movies, these booths are used primarily by the gay community as cruise spots and places to have sex. This is the primary purpose of removing the walls and turning the booths towards the front counter, if its out in the open, nothing is going to happen. Also you have to remember that married men use these booths because many wives are not as appreciative of the porn artform and many men dont have the privacy that may be required for them to view it on line at home. Bottom sorry but I dont have the butt plugs either LOL.

The original poster is incorrect. This information is not true.

Ray's Over 21 (Independence Ave) is not going out of business.

I went in tonight and asked for myself. I think the conversation went something like this:

Me: "Hi, how's it goin'?"
Counter Girl: "Good. Can't complain. You?"
Me: "Hey, are you guys going out of business or closing soon? Something like that?"
Counter Girl: "Fuck no, we ain't closin'. Who told you that BS?"
Me: "Them Interwebs told me."
Counter Girl: <shrugs and smiles>

I could be mistaken, but I think what the original poster actually meant was Erotic City (Truman Rd) near 435 is closing. Ray's Over 21 is heathy as far as I can tell. Shelves full of "product", etc.

Actually I meant Rays, when I drove by they were closed for several days or at least their open sign was not on and there was a closed sign on the door. But i went by the other day and it was open. But since the thread is over 30 days old, I did not want to bump it.
