It's a muzzle brake.

I have a 70 series Colt 1911 Combat Commander. Short barrel but full cap magazine. I also just picked up a Smith 645 recently. 1911's just have the perfect balance and fit. It's almost like pointing your finger. And to think the design is 100 years old. John Browning was a genius.

Also, here is my Springfield GI project gun. It isn't finished, but it's starting to look more and more like the way I want it.

When I get around to getting the slide milled and some better sights installed, then I'm thinking about having it black chromed. So imagine stainless accents on a black chrome finish.

The trigger job, grip safety and thumb safety are all Ed Brown parts. The trigger breaks crisp at about 3 lbs. Also I see a new stainless barrel and bushing somewhere down the road.

It'll be nice when I get done with it.

The rifle is 280 Ackley. I had it built about 20 years ago.

The colt is finished with brownells bake on teflon epoxy. I bead blast the parts for a matte finish.
