Default Prepaid Credit Cards

Does anyone know anything about prepaid credit cards that can be purchased in the stores. Any recommendations? Any to stay away from. A few years ago, I purchased one, can't remember which, but it couldn't be used for some things (especially online purchased) and I have not bothered since.

http://www.creditcardguide.com/prepaid.html

Almost all of them have monthly/annual fees on them.

Personally, I prefer AMEX / DISC prepaid, but if you want to buy it at store, I would go with .

Default Prepaid

can be refilled at many places, wallyworld, riteaid, etc. I think it was 203.95 to add 200 to it so fairly reasonable, accepted as Visa. Works good if you want to send money to someone, just buy refill card and give code to cardholder to add to their card.

it more or less functions like a debit card. You can use it to make multiple purchases and the card will be valid as long as you keep balance on it. It has mastercard logo on it, so it will be accepted anywhere mastercard is, including online stores.

Card has a $5.95 monthly fee. They also charge $4.95 everytime you deposit funds to your prepaid card.

Frequently Asked Questions

Personally I prefer Discover prepaid gift cards. I believe you have to be a discover card holder to buy these, but they don't have any monthly fees on them. You won't be able to reload the card, but it serves the purpose of having a prepaid card that's accepted everywhere (that accepts DISC) and not have to worry about any monthly fees (although they charge inactivity fees if you don't use it for a few months).

I like my Idea of a card that can not be reloaded, like a money gram. But I do not have to say to who to be paid to, or mail like a money order.

I would love to be able to buy card at any value. Part of the set up is on the receipt. Go home do the other half of set up on line with the receipt and card. Make my buy on line with that card. And after all is done. So is the card. Almost like I paid cash on line. The service cost all paid up front.

I want to be as free online as I can be with hard cold cash.

edit add: Then after set amount of time, and not a thing has been said by seller or buyer(card holder) to card system. They can reuse the number. And the paper trial is over.

Your bank will typically sell a Visa/MC/Amex gift card in various amounts.

Some banks offer a service where they give you a temp card number with a set limit you can use for one online purchase
