Default Unemployment Benefits

I am torn by this issue. It is hung up in the Senate and without action about 200,000 people will fall off the rolls. The States which are already stretched will have this burden fall on them like a ton of bricks.

I hear lots of stories about abuse of the system. In California the Debit Cards issued were useable at small and local casinos. Last day of the month(issuance day) was always the biggest attendance day at the gambling spots.

This recession I have lots of friends, acquaintances, and former employees that are going to go in the dump because of this.

So I am not sure how I feel about it. Unfortunately it has become another Politcal Debate over creating a bigger deficit vs the welfare of those that need it.

WTF?

Default Unemployment

I meant to say 200,000 a week will fall off the rolls.

Senator Sessions stated that the Republicans and the Democrats who do not support the bill would support the bill if it was paid for through cuts in other areas or using some of the unspent stimulas money. Its amazing to me that almost two years after it was enacted there is unspent stimulas money, but apparently there is. I would rather that the money be spent for projects which put people to work, but if not then lets help those who need it out. He also stated that there is a lot of fraud in the unemployment system, which is reduced would free up a substantial amount of money. I believe that if the government does not extend the unemployment benefits, the loss of that revenue in the economy is going to help us slide into a double dip recession. But I can also see the other side of the coin, that to keep borrowing money is going to bankrupt us, this is a difficult situation and I am not sure which way is the best way to go. The should cut back on some of the aid to other countrys and use it to aid those in this country IMHO.

I am undecided about this also. I know of several people who aren't looking for work because they are still collecting unemployment, but I'm sure there are many who feel the check is all that is preventing them from living under a bridge. But saying no to unemployment benefits and extending $35 billion in tax breaks for oil companies seems to be rather unfair.

Why not pressure your representatives and Senators to produce clean bills. I really love the part about waiting until after the election before coming up with a spending bill. Cowards
