No argument there. I never said to stop drilling. I like my cheap gas. Problem is, it's not us doing the drilling is it? Time will tell exactly who are the guilty parties in this mess, in the meantime I'm going to blame the greedy bastard Cheney. His task force passed on the fail safes in order to save a buck while awarding Halliburton cementing contracts (which are known to be spotty). BP has operated without much oversight off our waters, and thanks to price point triggers being ignored, without giving much back to the US. I can't help but think that if one digs deeper, his hands will be in there somewhere.

I was just wondering whether Mr. Holier Than Thou was calling the some 450,000 sharholders the greedy ones, or maybe it is the some 80,000 employees, or maybe even the hundreds of thousands of customers and vendors and their employees that are the greedy ones. But from his "oh, so high" perch...it seems that he is the only one who can judge the greedy ones and the opressed. We are so blessed to have him in our midst.

And Little Stevie...my mirror is just fine. I look in it all the time. Some of us know the history of the blind man...and his integrity. I'm not sure you really want to go there buddy.

It just seems that all of this would have been easier to deal with on land. How does perceived damage to pristine Anwar compare to dead wildlife and ruined ecosystems. There needs to be consistency and a coherent policy. You have green wackos going epileptic over drilling on land where no one lives and no one can see it, yet there are platforms in sight of Huntington Beach in California and all over populated areas in Texas.

The fact of the matter is we need oil and we need to figure out the safest and most efficient way to get it. For those that say we don't, then I suggest they try living in a society that does not depend on oil and see how reality is so different than fantasy.

Reality is that Pocahontas was not pretty, smelled bad and did not spent her day talking to the forest creatures.

Sure, if you want to spin it that way. You'd make a good politician. Your hypocrisy on the 'high perch' is laughable. Jesus could learn from your humility. So what makes your opinion so valid and others not? With 300+ million in the US, I surely doubt the majority of Americans give a rats-ass what happens to BP and it's 450,000 shareholders (including you) after this. Yes, but as the oil and gas become more decentralized and spread out between deposits, the methods have become more damaging.

The BP well was a free flowing well unlike most of those now drilled or extracted through shale formations. Even on my own land, I've seen saltwater rise to the surface and kill scores of acres of pasture land.

These deep water high pressure flowing wells are akin to the old "gushers" that used to be common in many places due to the pressure on the underground reservoirs. Most of these fields are still under lots of pressure because they are to date almost untapped formations from a volume standpoint.

There are no easy answers and for more oil extraction to occur, gas and oil prices will have to support the technology necessary to get at those reserves and new discoveries.

Figure out how to deal with permafrost economically and Mother Russia could supply the world for another century or more.

As oil prices rise other options will become more economically feasible but without much more stringent safety regulations and expert inspection to insure compliance, we are in for many more episodes of irreparable destruction.

That's kinda funny.

The irony is as it relates to good-natured ribbing about everyday activities there is some truth to it. Like, "Dammit W, I can't believe all this traffic...back when you were CiC we never had traffic..." etc.
