You guys have seen our movies right? Trust but always confirm. The host country IS expected to provide security but it's ultimately the personal security where the buck stops. There's no way in hell they'd let any security measures be taken without their knowledge. Not ever. It's our ball to have dropped. And not only did we drop it, we bounced that baby all over the gym.

Track jump:

So what's that about Bain Capitol buying up a bunch of commercial real estate close to the white house? That's what the frantic caller to that dude on the Lefts XM station had to say. The one that is on during the 5 o'clock hour. I have many opinions of him after hearing him talk to his known buddies and new callers. Interesting to listen too. Sort of. In a creepy kind of way.

Why is it the Lefts callers want destruction, lies and theft and the right wants honesty, love and good character? It looks pretty bad from the outside.

You haven't heard of Mei Lai, Hadtha and other massacres? It isn't a good reason, but " shoot first & ask questions later" happens and can cause more problems than it solves. You don't want to shoot up host countries citizens if u can help it.

BTW, Rush isn't a source. Rush, is a pundit, a big drug addled wind bag pundit who is totally partisan. A source would be the guy who rented the consulate to the state department or the old lady who lived across the street and witnessed the attacks. Please don't comment unless you have some clue what u are talking about.

Oh, and I heard the Marines were only allowed SuperSoakers, but at least they filled them with piss!

And why can't you get through even one post without saying something so insanely stupid?

I didn't wade through all the childish posts .... but I have seen any casualty reports for Marines.

There were reports of about 15 to 20 "wounded" ... but no "affiliation" other than embassy personnel. Does anyone have a link to more specific information.

#1: I would think there would be (Marine casualties) if they were present.

#2: Private "contractors" were killed. From what is being reported, they were armed.

In this particular case I don't know the real story at the moment.

BUT

This story could be true based on past history and encounters.

Military guards may...
not have any ammo on them.
have ammo in a magazine on them in a pouch but not in the weapon. (common in general or low threat conditions)
have ammo in the weapon but not chambered. (common in high threat areas)
have ammo chambered but with the weapon on safe at all times. (for high value areas and high threat areas)

Where those guards are, country and type of location being guarded, and the threat level will change the condition of weapons carry status. It will also change the type of weapons carried. Also keep in mind they won't have a large supply of ammo on them.

Many times the biggest worry of those in charge are accidental discharges of weapons. Also diplomats would rather we look peaceful and weak so we end up getting hurt far more often than we hurt others in defense of ourselves. Other things are required to be benign looking during peaceful and non threatening conditions.

In general the Rules of Engagement in non combat situations require that guards not fire weapons unless fired upon and only in self defense. A clear target must be visible and clear of civilians/people not involved. In other words they can only shot somebody who is shooting at them when they have a clear target free of conflicts. Well at least unless they have been told to not fire under any circumstances, and that stupid stuff has happened all too often.

OK, the reason you don't see any Marine casualties is that Marines are only stationed at Embassies and it was a consulate in Libya, the embassy is in Tripoli. The two State Department security personnel who dies ere ex-Navy Seals and there was only State Department security in that establishment. A U.S. consulate is also not sovereign U.S. territory and anyone who read the reports should have figured that out from the statements by the guy who "rented the building" to the State Department. The Libyans and the Egyptians (it was an embassy in Cairo) should have held the protesters and to some extent the terrorists back from the perimeter of both the consulate and the embassy, but didn't. I think there were some Libyan and some Egyptian security personnel injured but apparently they put up token resistance and left, but that is yet to be determined definitively from what I've read so far.

For rules of engagement for military guards at State Department installations see post above as it seem to be from someone who knows what they are talking about. Rules differ for different types of installations and for diplomatic ones military force is the absolute last thing that is desired because it pretty much negates any use of diplomacy from there on out for quite a long time and precipitates anger and posturing since it is not our country (not matter how dangerous it might be). That is why fortified embassy installations, escape plans and safe houses are usually in place as well.

Do you mean to say that you think he provided some sort of useful service to society somewhere in the past?

. . . Then we'd be looking for ever!

Actually, Rush does have a web site on which you can hear/read his blatherings. I was really impressed by the six different pictures of himself that he had posted on the front page. Little ego issue?

[QUOTE=joe bloe;3188543
I'm sure al-Qaeda is hoping that Odumbo is re-elected. If al-Qaeda could greatly increase the likelihood of Odumbo's re-election by sacrificing Osama, who knows? /QUOTE]

An interesting take on the situation. Totally stupid, but interesting. If you look at the record, there have been a hell of a lot more Al-Qaeda leaders killed during the Obama years than the Bush years. Obama has authorized drone strikes in Pakistan, Afghanistan, Yemen, and Somalia whenever targets could be identified. And don't forget he also authorized the strike on Al-Kawi. The Taliban and Al-Qaeda have been having trouble recruiting mid- and high-level leaders because of their limited life expectancy. They never know when a Hellfire is coming through the roof. In regard to Rush "speculating": he only throws that shit out there because he knows some people are too stupid to differentiate between fact and fiction.

Oh, but you would be wrong in your suppositions. Furthermore, Bush 43 actually incarcerated some key leaders and used operational intelligence they provided; which, btw, eventually led to OBL.
