Default American Character is at Stake

Is the entitlement society destroying America?

From the article:

A half-century of unfettered expansion of entitlement outlays has completely inverted the priorities, structure and functions of federal administration as these were understood by all previous generations. Until 1960 the accepted task of the federal government, in keeping with its constitutional charge, was governing. The overwhelming share of federal expenditures was allocated to some limited public services and infrastructure investments and to defending the republic against enemies foreign and domestic.

This guy seems to think it is. What say you?

I tend to agree. It's now a society of I'm entitled to it.

The problem is, they did not pay enough into it for the benifits they now want out of it.

That is whay the old bastards want to cut education and the like. They do not want to invest in this country, they want their retirement benifits. A bunch of old greedy Tea Nuts that want their kids to pay for their war and retirement!

I say fuc'em.

But you are right, it is not socialism, it is greed. Bunch of greedy old bastards that bitch about entitlement and are the biggest user of them!

They didn't exactly have a choice to NOT pay in, now did they?

Most who are collecting food stamps and long term unemployment checks likely paid nothing to very very little....

Well they did have to work. I guess.

My point is that that generation of leaders did not plan ahead very well and now they want the next generation to pay for their shortfall. Pluss they want them to pay for the wars that our seniors like Bush and Cheny did not pay for. They had a choice to pay for those and chose not to. Bunch of slackers!

Section eight housing, food stamps, WIC, AFDC, and the multitude of other government handout programs are different than Social Security and Medicare. Social Security and Medicare are funded by the witholding tax from working people.

We have millions of people that have never worked a day in their life living off the system, many of them, here illegally.
