I guess you have to go back to the beginning. Who authorized the initial raid against people that no proof existed of any criminal act? If they truly believed that weapons violations were taking place then why not approach them as any other law enforcement unit would have done. Why the SWAT tactics?

I often wonder: Why are some who want to give marterdom status to the Waco victims (and I agree it was a botched event) also see nothing wrong with the Trail of Tears?

For many, the use of violence seems to be selectively justified.

The Trail of Tears was horrendous; I never understood how Kit Carson came away with a reputation as being one of the good guys in the western frontier....

I do not agree with JD much but on this I sure the fuc do!

To answer your question, from my recollection, the ATF's budget was coming up and things like this little raid(before it went bad) were justification.

At least it looks like we can agree bad things happen on many sides of the spectrum, and when they happen they are wrong.
