Arrow Do you think Marriage is Overrated and Obsolete?

I think it's overrated. I don't believe or buy into the "happily ever after" fantasy. I rather party all the time.

It is the destruction of the family unit that is a major part of the decline in our nation.

I hear all the horror stories all the time from my buddies and my buddies even tell me if they were "me" and could relive their lives again, they tell me they would never marry. I believe my buddies and I have been following their advise since. I don't want to be another statistic, the thought of a divorce scares me.

I bet your buddies' wives love to see you coming over.

Whether marriage is over rated is a long term question answered by your children. That's really the only reason to get married.

Generally, marriage is becoming obsolete. Most women will have someone's baby without the ring when push comes to shove and let the courts decide. A history professor said that marriage in the 'old days' wasn't a 40-50 year proposition. At least one of the couple would be dead in 20 years for some reason that's fairly avoidable today.

It seems to me that the institution of "marriage" is dying. I fear that if things continue heading this way, soon nobody will trust nobody and it will be everyone looking out for themselves. I opted out because every chick I dated was screwing me over, I had enough of it and remained single ever since.

Much depends on the partnership between you and your spouse. Not all partnerships work out but it is generally because one of them or both were never really in it for the long haul.
I see married people all the time that are basically just living n the same house. They keep everything separate and it is his or hers. Most of these people end up fighting and arguing.

If I had it to do all over again, I wold probably still marry but I would not marry again at this point in my life.

I know, wrong form

Husband took the wife to a disco on the weekend. There was a guy on the dance floor giving it large - break dancing, moon walking, back flips, the works. The wife turned to husband and said: "See that guy? 25 years ago he proposed to me and I turned him down." Husband says: "Looks like he's still fucking celebrating!!!

Marriage is what you make of it - if you did it at an early age. you risk growing apart cause you probably never got a chance to sow them wild oats..... if you do it too late, you may find that you are both too stuck in your ways to really mesh with each other....

I've seen both types thrive and also fail.... Best thing I ever did was get married as my kids are the light of my life.... the SO and I get along - sometimes we are "in love", sometimes we are "in hate", most times we are "in like and respect".... you also need to define the relationship according to what works for the two of you,,,, there is no perfect marriage and no set rules.... we allow each other to take separate vacations (mine are mostly overseas due to work, she goes to our florida home, or to AZ or CA.... we don't ask and don't tell... works for us

And in many ways the internal combustion engine & cheap oil are major causes for the decline of the family unit.

Not at all; but it isn't for everyone.
