Default Is the sky falling?

From CNN regarding the internet going out on PC's with malware:

http://money.cnn.com/2012/07/06/tech...nger/index.htm

I have placed a link below to the govt website to check your PC, when you get there if your screen background is Green then all is fine.

If it isRed, then you have issues.

Link to the website: http://dns-ok.us/

Is this a legitimate threat in your opinion?

Seems just as risky to click on the goober site there... if not more. I just can't trust the federal govt to do shit right nowdays. They seem to make problems so they can be the solution provider. Most major anti virus apps should have the signature to check by now with a full scan.

Merged thread with the same topic with this one.

These things are usually molehills being made into mountains. Just keep your anti-virus and anti-malware stuff current. Do maintenance/cleanup on a regular basis. You will be fine.

If you do not have any anti-virus or anti-malware stuff then by all means get them. There are a number a great tools of this kind out there that work very well and are free.

Avast!
Malwarebytes
Spybot Search & Destroy
Microsoft Security Essentials

To help with maintenance and cleanup...

CCleaner
Defraggler
Revo Uninstaller

the "plug pulling" by the FBI must have been Eastern Time because it was working around 9:30 this evening

hopefully your firewalls and other protections are in order...

I read they "guesstimated" 50,000 computers in the states (many within corporations because people download things at work from the Internet) ==> so that number is almost so small to worry sweetheart..

I read there are close to 200 million computers in the U.S.
