Default Computer Hardware Issue

I have a problem where my computer screen goes black for about ten seconds, then comes back on. It used to happen only once in a while when I was in a chat room or on youtube. Now it happens on a regular basis on any website. I get a message in the bottom right corner saying:

Display Driver stopped responding and has recovered
Diplay driver ATI Radeon Family stopped responding and has recovered.

I have a Dell Studio XPS desktop. Any help is appreciated.

Go to the Dell website, enter your service tag number.

Find the video driver for your machine and follow the instructions to update the driver.

Good luck.

Agreed, update the video driver. If that does not work, then it may be the video card on the desktop. You can get a replacement video card for a fairly wide range of prices at Fry's. Take the current card with you to be sure you get the correct type of slot.

And if you are replacing the video card, it really helps if you remove the driver(s) before installing the video card driver to avoid conflicts.

Save the updated driver on either a flash drive or burn a CD with all the updated drivers from Dell for that machine.

I forgot to mention that once you hit the Dell support site and find your Service tag, you might check to see what else needs updated.

I can't count the number of times I've updated the BIOS on Dell machines and that solved a good third of current issues as I updated the other drivers and in many cases you MUST update the BIOS before updating drivers.

I agree with rcg001 100% about Frye's but they are also known for selling returned items as new so check closely.

None of those solutions are accurate
Its known as a TDR error, Bing it...
It's easy to fix if you are comfy with the registry, I can help if you aren't comfy doing it yourself
