Default Searching a phone number??

How do I search a number? I just typed in the following number and had 80 hits. When opening the threads some had a protion of the number somewhere in the text others didn't have anything associated with my search number.

This is how I entered the number: 404-717-4936

Sir, I copied the number and got 2 hits, one your thread and one a BP review. Not sure what happened to your search. Try copying the number you posted and doing the search again.

Let me know what happens.

Thanks,
PPE

PPE,
I just did it again and got 80 hits. I have it checking all forums. I did open several of the threads and did not find anything in the thread that would associate it with my search.

Thanks for you help, Bud

OK, very strange. Here is my search results.

Can you copy and past your search results link?

We will figure this out.

Can you try another phone #?

My searches for phone numbers do the same thing as Budman's. I was searching a number the other day and it picked up innumerable hits. The only constant I could see was the area code was the same in all hits.

Try searching for just the last 4 digits and see if you get better results.

It may be finding all posts that have 404 717 or 4936.

How are you entering the search? Try this page: http://www.eccie.net/search.php

Use the "show results as posts" option.

I have been having the same issue: far too many hits when I search a phone number. And, I was about to post the same question before I stumbled across this thread.

Sometimes enclosing the number in quotes helps. For example, "123-456-7890", or "456-7890". Remember that most search engines use some of the special characters (like the "-", "+", "&") to interpret boolean logic.

So, searching the number 123-4567 may give everything that contains 123 but does not contain 4567. I am not sure if the search engine here is like that.

Yes, we will look into it.
